Until the release of West End Games' "Sourcebook" in 1989-ish for its Star Wars Role Playing Game, I thought of Snowtroopers being just regular Stormtroopers that simply got dressed up differently. However West End Games had a different interpretation. The Sourcebook stated that Snowtroopers were elite troops, therefore being physically stronger and better trained, especially for extreme cold (of course!). This was also reflected in their game stats where e.g. the "Strength" score of an ordinary Stormtrooper was set to 2D (dice) while Snowies were set to 3D--Or translated from nerdish to common speak: Snowies were 50% stronger than the ordinary ones. Same applied to "Dexterity" and other characteristics. So they wouldn't only resist injuries better, they would also avoid (dodge!) them more likely in the first place, and on top would actually hit (as opposed to miss!) you. Their superiority was also reflected in the OT movies, where they weren't treated as much as "cannon fodder" as their ordinary counterparts were. Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear). Luke received his Hoth outfit long after Han and Leia. The figure was released within the second last wave for The Empire Strikes Back, along with the AT-AT Commander, the (Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot, the second, more detailed Bespin Security Guard, and the updates for Artoo (with sensorscope) and Threepio (removable limbs). A very small wave and a strange wave with one third just replacing old versions and not adding to the lot and one figure to allow army building the rather unpopular Bespin Guard. Even stranger was, that Luke didn't come with his usual choice of weapons (either a lightsaber or a "smuggler" blaster) but instead was equipped with the Rebel Commander's gun. I never questioned this choice as a kid as I found the gun more exciting than the small blaster or a lightsaber, that would just look like a stick anyway. However with time came wisdom and when I bought this Luke back, he was without weapon, so I took the liberty of giving him a repro lightsaber (in Luke's favorite lightsaber color yellow) and a repro "smuggler" blaster which I imagine to be a Hoth version, since it's so gray. Suits Luke well and with the mound of his left hand you could almost get the idea that Kenner intended to give Luke a lightsaber but then somehow skipped the idea in the process. #starwars #actionfigures #lukeskywalker #hothbattlegear #kenner
