A thing I like to do with my kids is give them participation points. They do something good, I tell them “plus 5 points” they play around or talk while I’m talking “minus 10 points” and the kids try and keep up with it and it gets them motivated to answer and behave in class.

But the points don’t mean anything. I don’t write anything down, I don’t keep up with who gains or who loses anything. The kids know this, and they’re still reapply protective about their points, and I love it because it’s free (and I’m a broke ass teacher) and it reinforces my expectations.

I’ve never thought about why I do it, until today when one of my kids said “Ms. you only give us points because it’s like Harry Potter” and I shit you not I just stared at him like

No,like, seriously 🙄... it's like other Slytherin members earn house points and the mc just loose them!it's actually mc loose house points while the other Slytherins don't even earn house points...

MY mc earn like 2000+ house points and here are other Slytherins with negative "-"in front of their house points...

Still,the mc got scolded for 'loosing' house points like they didn't already got much more...I'm actually traumatized when Felix scolded them... I'm more scared of him then Snape himself...

Whoever said that nepotism only exists within Slytherin House clearly never had to deal with Potter and gang whilst also having to deal with an eccentric Gryffindor with heavy Slytherin vibes Headmaster.
