The ring depicts an Insect from the Family Muscidae fused with human anatomy and other aesthetic elements. I will not go into the symbolism of the (crowned) fly and the gold material, that could be a whole post on it's own.
It is NOT a moth, not a beetle or a dragonfly. And I'm pretty sure on this, based soley on the depiction itself and the anatomy visible and not merged with human skull and other aesthetic.
The anatomy of the body fits that of a fly perfectly from the proportion of thorax to abdomen. The shape of the wing is that of a fly as well, even though its almost overly detailed on the veins of the wing (but that's artistic interpretation) the segmentation of the legs (tarsus) and posture is that of a fly (in flight, not sitting), the feet with the claws are as well.
Beetles and Moth don't have the thorax and abdomen seperated like that at all, they are fused. Dragonflies have a totally different anatomy in total. Also all these other insects have visible DOUBLE WINGS (or elytron in the case of beetles) - flies "used to" have double wings as well, but the secondary pair got reduced - known as halteres (basically modified into gyro-stabilizers, but you can't easily see them) So based on the wing alone, you can tell it's a fly.
I also love the "spikes" on the abdomen, because they fit the skull but also look like the hair flies have on their abdomen.
So, why am i so adamant about this? I actually collect real fly-jewelery (yes, i'm very specific), and compared to the pieces in my collection it's the most accurate depiction i have seen yet (ofc it's a 3D model and can be more detailed then my real life metal pieces) And as an aside, the only animal that sometimes gets confused (in art) as flies are bees. And you can tell it's not a bee, by the single wing and the missing stripes. Also many fly species have more pronounced almost spike looking leg hair that bees are usually missing. (it's also often missing in art, it's not visible here as well. The "spikes" or hair looking things on the ring are more pronouenced leg segments. which some fly-species and beetles actually have)
Fly jewelery is rare, it's an animal not often used for decoration or jewelery. That's why it's very VERY special to me that this ring is such a clear depction. And trust me, i have pieces in my collection that are more confusing than this (where i am not sure if it's another animal or not, but it got sold as such)
I wish this ring was real, i would LOVE to own it :,)
