tw: mafia elements, profanity, kidnapping, drug use, guns
Kageyama Tobio paces in front of your lab building. You should have been done an hour ago, and normally you text if something comes up. Maybe you’re studying or had to do extra lab work. He shouldn’t worry himself yet.
Six hours later, Kageyama finds himself at his desk, looking over security camera footage with Miwa leaning over his shoulder. His phone buzzes next to him; a simple picture is the only message. His shaking hand causes the phone to slip from his grip, falling to the floor. His stomach drops as his heart cracks.
---
Your first thought is that your head hurts. Your second thought is that you need to figure out what the hell happened.
You keep your eyes closed; if your attackers are near you, you don’t want them to know that you’re awake yet. Instead, you focus on what information you can gather from your other senses.
You’re laying on your back, on what you guess is a bed. It’s soft underneath your back, which is a slight relief. You can’t be in too much danger if your kidnappers have given you a comfortable bed, right? The room isn’t completely dark; your eyes are able to register that something is emitting a soft light. If you focus, you can hear muffled voices, probably in a hallway outside the room you’re in.
You slowly open your eyes; there doesn’t seem to be any immediate danger. Most of your assumptions were correct. You’re in a small room, lying on a bed, blankets covering you. There are no windows, but a lamp on the bedside table casts the room in soft yellow light. A closed door is to your right, and you can hear the voices that way. Besides missing your shoes, you’re still fully dressed in what you were wearing. The backpack you were carrying is missing, along with your phone. There’s no telling how long you were out for or what time it is now. You can only pray that Kageyama knows you wouldn’t miss your lunch date without telling him; that he realizes something is amiss.
The lock on the door clicks, and you sit up, preparing yourself for whoever enters. It’s the man who was leaning over you before you passed out; you recognize his sickening grin. His smile only widens when he sees that you’re awake, and he comes towards the side of the bed as you try to crawl away from him.
“I’m glad to see that you’re finally awake, darling.”
His voice drips with sweet venom, making you cringe. “Get the fuck away from me.”
He cocks his head to the side. “No can do, darling. You’re mine now.”
“I don’t even know you. Let me go.” You really wish that you had anything to use against him; a weapon, a knife, even something to throw at him.
“You know me. Well, maybe you don’t, but Tobio sure does. Isn’t that right?” Your eyes widen as he pulls a cellphone from his pocket, your cellphone, you realize. Kageyama’s not on speaker, but you can hear his voice. He’s shouting, screaming at this guy in front of you, and it all suddenly clicks.
These are the people who have the files. This is Seijoh. This is who Kageyama was worried about.
You don’t know how you didn’t realize it from the start; getting drugged must have slowed down your brain. Now that you know the situation you’re in, adrenaline starts to kick in. This is the mafia, and these people will kill you. You know this, and you need to escape before that can happen. Seijoh will do anything to get to Kageyama, and you can’t allow him to risk anything to get you back. You will have to escape yourself.
“Give me the phone.” The man glances up at you, eyebrows shooting up at your request.
“Why would I do such a thing?” Kageyama’s still shouting, even louder now. The man hums thoughtfully, then presses a button. “I guess I could put him on speaker.”
Kageyama’s voice is now clear, but all you hear are threats and a lot of shouting.
“Tobio?” You call his name, hoping he’ll hear it through all his yelling, and vaguely, it crosses your mind that this is the first time in four years that you’ve used Kageyama’s given name.
“Y/n?” His voice is frantic, and you can almost picture him, disheveled and pacing back and forth. The thought brings tears to your eyes. You have to escape, if only so that you can see him again, tell him you love him, call him by his first name to his face.
“I’m here. Listen, don’t do anything stupid. I’ll find a way out, I promise.”
“Y/n, I’m going to come get you, don’t listen to anything Oikawa tells you. I’ll give him whatever he wants in exchange for you returning safely, he knows that.” You look to the man, Oikawa.
“Tobio, don’t you dare do anything stupid. Don’t give him anything. I’ll kill you myself if you do. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine. I’ll find a way out.”
Oikawa grins. “Alright, that’s enough.” Kageyama’s shouting as Oikawa ends the call, pocketing your phone. He extends his hand to you, and you grimace.
“Come on. Why don’t we chat for a bit, darling?”
---
Kageyama Tobio tosses his phone across the room in anger. You are so, so brave and he is not worthy of you. You were taken right from him, in broad daylight, and he couldn’t do anything to stop it. Even with your warnings, he is willing to do anything to get you home, to bring you back safe.
Miwa brings him tea as he pours over every piece of information he has. She calls his associates; his most trusted men, any and all rival gangs he has alliances with.
He can only pray that you are safe, that Oikawa wouldn’t harm his most powerful bargaining chip.
---
When Oikawa reaches for you, you grab his hand and pull him towards you, punching him in the nose. He’s shouting for someone, but you’re too focused on doing all the damage you possibly can. You don’t notice when another man comes into the room, syringe in hand, and pricks you in the arm. As the world fades and tears form in your eyes, you can only hope that you’ll have the chance to wake once again.
---
When you wake again, you are thankful. You’re in the same room with the same surroundings. There is no telling how long you were out for this time, but you’re mercifully alone. That is enough to encourage you to get up, to start thinking of a plan. You try to sit up, but your muscles are weak. It takes minutes to pull yourself into a sitting position, and you’re exhausted by the end of it. You can’t do anything like this. You collapse back down again, praying that whatever drugs they’ve given you will be worn off by the time you wake next.
---
The Artura roars as Kageyama presses down on the gas, one hand on the gearshift. It’s nearing dawn; he’s been out all night looking for clues and a way to see Oikawa without provoking him. None of his efforts have proven futile, so now, he does what he should’ve done first: gone straight to the source.
There are no bodyguards are security outside the lavish mansion, not even a gate. He parks at the top of the driveway, just outside the garage. There have to be security cameras, but he doesn’t care. He’ll get what he’s here for regardless.
Oikawa’s personal residence is an elaborate estate on the outskirts of Tokyo. It’s quite the commute, Kageyama thinks, for someone who works in the heart of the city. He himself prefers living where he works; it’s an easy way to oversee all of his assets and ensure that everything is running smoothly.
This isn’t his first time here, and when he goes to push the front door open, it is unlocked. Kageyama’s mind screams that this means danger, but it doesn’t fully sink in until he walks into the foyer, a gun pointed at his head.
Oikawa Tooru stands leisurely, even when pointing a glock at someone’s forehead. His smile is the same as ever; a chilling, too-nice thing that has always given Kageyama the creeps. His finger hovers on the trigger, and Kageyama immediately realizes that he has made a grave mistake.
If Oikawa pulls that trigger, he will be dead, and there is no way of knowing what will happen to you.
---
When the blanket of sleep lifts again, you are feeling significantly better. There is no one in the room and the drugs have worn off. You rifle through the nightstand’s drawers first. There seems to be nothing of importance, all of the drawers are empty, until you hit the bottom one.
You dig your fingernails into the edge. The depth of this drawer was significantly less than the rest, and your suspicions are proven correct when the false bottom pops out and a handgun is revealed.
Laughing, you grab it, popping the safety off. It’s a miracle, really, that you were able to find such a thing. You stand and head to the door, expecting it to be locked, another challenge to face. Instead, it opens with ease, and you step out into the hall with chills crawling down your spine. Someone is allowing you to leave, and that is unusual.
You stick to the walls as you make your way around. You can hear faint voices, and you follow them through the confusing layout of the house. You look around a corner, gun poised and ready to shoot, when someone grabs you from behind.
You shriek as an arm is snaked around your body, one of your attacker’s hands coming up to cover your mouth. Your eyes are wide in fear when they turn you around, and you remember the gun in your hand. You bring it up to shoot, closing your eyes and hating yourself for what you’re about to do, but your attacker knocks it from your hand easily.
You recognize him, he was there when you were first kidnapped. He puts a hood over your hand and leans in close.
“Stay quiet if you want lover-boy to stay alive.”
Goosebumps prickle on your skin at his words. He can only mean Kageyama, right? You pray that Kageyama is safe, that he didn’t do anything stupid, that he’s alive and well and not here.
You’re led around the house; you can’t see anything, and you’re thoroughly confused with all of the turns by the time you’re led down a set of stairs and towards the voices you heard earlier.
Your heart drops when you’re close enough to distinguish the voices.
“Anything, really? You’d give me your business, your assets, your life?”
Oikawa’s voice is smooth, and you can tell he’s finding humor in the situation at hand, but it isn’t his voice that concerns you.
“Anything.”
No. No. No.
You silently cry when you hear Kageyama’s voice. Why is he here? Why didn’t he stay away like you told him to? Why is he risking everything?
“Hm. Well, if I’m going to kill you, wouldn’t it be better to have an audience?”
You’re thrust forward, nearly stumbling without anyone’s hands to keep you steady. The man from before rips the hood off of your head, and you come face to face with Oikawa, a gun in his hand, aiming for Kageyama. You can’t run to either of them, someone will shoot you if you do. Instead, you hold your ground.
“Let her go.” Kageyama’s voice is thick with anger, and you let your tears fall. “At least don’t make her watch this.”
“You aren’t in a position to make demands right now. I could just as easily kill her instead. Actually,” Oikawa’s easy smile makes you want to scream, “Hajime, why don’t you show poor Tobio how bad this could really get.”
The man behind you, Hajime apparently, grabs you again so that you can’t move. Kageyama’s eyes widen in fear; you aren’t sure why, Hajime just grabbed you, that’s all.
Everything makes sense when you feel the cold press of a gun against your temple.

a/n: posting an hour early :)
“I’m sorry. I can’t.”
Simple words, and predictable ones, but his heart still hurts. He knew this, he knew it was coming, he knew what you would say, he prepared himself for it, so why does it feel like his world is crashing down? He’s leaving you, but he guesses you’re leaving him first. The thought brings him comfort. He didn’t want to involve you in this, as much as it hurts watching you walk away. He should be thankful that you’re breaking his heart and not the other way around. He should be thankful that you’ll hopefully hold this against him for the rest of his life. He should be thankful that you will never know the cold steel of a gun, the glint of an attacker’s knife.
You’re long gone by now, probably tucked into bed. He’s right where you left him, although he is no longer staring at the spot where you were standing. Now, he’s watching the moonlight on the water. The world looks cast in melancholy blue; a beautiful setting for his final night and a tearful goodbye.
He is thankful for this last chance to see you; to memorize your features and commit them all to memory. He is thankful for the tears on his face, as he will not be allowed to show them in the future. He is thankful for all the emotions that he is currently feeling; he savors them, knowing that when he wakes up tomorrow, they will be long gone; suppressed forever.
---
You’re up and running before you even have the chance to fully grasp the situation at hand. There’s blood, so much blood; Miwa’s calling to you, but you can’t hear her. There’s only the pounding of your heart in your ears and the four years worth of schooling you’ve received; racking your brain for any and all useful information.
“I need all the medical supplies you have; a first aid kit, bandages, forceps, scissors.” You pray that Miwa is listening, that your voice is projecting. “I know we probably can’t take him to the hospital, but if you have a doctor you normally see for stuff like this, call them.”
You press your hands to the wound. From what you can tell, it’s a bullet wound towards the bottom left of Kageyama’s chest. His heart is still beating and his breathing is slow, but steady, and you allow yourself a moment to be thankful that his lung hasn't collapsed. You focus on your next steps: stopping the bleeding, fully assessing the severity of the wound, and stabilizing Kageyama somewhere that isn’t the foyer’s floor.
Miwa drops down next to you with what you hope are sterile rags. “I called our doctor, she’ll be here soon.” She unwraps the plastic covering and hands you the rags, and you press them to Kageyama’s chest. “If we can just stop the bleeding, he’ll be fine.”
You can’t help but shiver at the thought that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
---
Kageyama Tobio is used to being shot at, but the bullets rarely meet their mark. Unfortunately, due to his own stupidity, this one does.
He curses as he runs to his car and jams the keys into the ignition. The fleeting thought that the blood will be a pain to get out of the seats crosses his mind, but he shakes his head and it’s gone. His only goal now is to get back to the penthouse. Miwa will know what to do.
When he stumbles in, feeling faint, his exhausted brain short-circuits at the sight of you. He falls to the floor as his vision blurs, feeling slightly thankful that if he dies tonight, at least the last thing he saw was you.
---
He knows he’s dreaming, that he’s drifting in and out of consciousness. He dreams of his childhood spent by your side, he dreams of your final goodbye. Even when he thinks he’s awake, he knows he must be dreaming, because you’re here, holding his hand and sitting by his side. He tries to reach out, to brush the tears off of your cheeks, but he can’t. He feels as if he’s failed you again.
---
The doctor is nice, a woman in her late twenties named Kiyoko. She performs her duties clinically, allowing you to help where you can and reassuring Miwa that everything will be fine. When the bullet is finally removed and Kageyama is stitched up, you collapse into a chair next to his bed.
You watch him carefully as Miwa flits around the penthouse, cleaning up and moving around Kageyama’s appointments for the next few weeks to allow him time to recover. You hold his hand in your own and rest your head on the side of the bed.
You were terrified tonight, you’ll admit it. You aren’t quite sure how you kept your cool and focused on the task at hand. You’re thankful that he is still breathing, that his heart is still beating.
If you hadn’t walked away, would this be the norm for you? Would you be accustomed to Kageyama coming home bleeding and half-dead? You don’t know how you would cope in a situation like that, unsure if Kageyama would come home in one piece or even come home at all. The thought terrifies you; knowing that for these past four years, there were times where he was injured and you had no clue, and that he will most likely continue to get hurt in the future.
Is it better or worse to be here for it, to be aware? Is it better to know and be there for him while enduring the pain of it all, or is it better to be blissfully unaware, back to your normal life where you know his job is a risk, but you aren’t involved?
---
The man is thrilled at all of the information contained in a tiny computer file. Better than he ever could have imagined; giving him the ability to hurt his enemy is the worst possible way - through the people he cares about.
It’s a low blow, even in this world, but what can he do? He’s run out of options. His enemy’s reign over Tokyo has encroached too far into his own territory, and has been occurring for far too long.
You’re an easy target; far better than attempting anything with his sister. She has the knowledge and power of the underworld to wield against him, but you, you, are perfect. No skills with a weapon, no comprehension of how things work in this world.
An innocent, perfect girl for him to corrupt.
He grins at the thought.
---
When Kageyama’s eyes finally open in the early hours of the morning, you almost burst into tears. You knew that he was physically fine; the wound would hurt, but was stitched and bandaged and fixed. You didn’t know how it would take a toll on the rest of his body. Some people suffer traumatic injuries and don’t wake up for days, months, years, ever.
You grin as Kageyama slowly opens his eyes, assessing the room around him.
“Y/n?” His voice is weak, but he’s awake. Alive.
“Yeah?” You’re still holding his hand, leaning on your arm as you reach for his forehead to check his body temperature.
“You’re here.”
He’s clearly still a little out of it, and you can tell that his brain is trying to piece together the picture of you before him. You laugh a little before you answer, “Of course I’m here. Where else would I be?”
His face is blank and he’s completely impassive when he says, “Not here.”
Miwa walks in to you laughing at Kageyama, who clearly does not understand why you’re laughing at him. She rushes over to him when she sees that he’s awake, gently hugging him.
“Tobio, thank god you’re alright. I was so fucking worried about you, you little shit.” She slaps his shoulder lightly, causing him to wince.
You step away to give them some privacy, heading out to get some water and pain meds from the kitchen, but as you cross the threshold of the bedroom, Kageyama speaks up. “Y/n, are you leaving?”
The ache in his voice is obvious, and it sends a pang to your heart. “I’m just going to get some water and medication for you.”
He’s smiling a little when he turns back to Miwa. “Okay, good.”
---
The next few weeks are fine, generally speaking. You spend the majority of your time at Kageyama’s penthouse, watching over his recovery and hanging out with Miwa. Hana becomes a bit suspicious when she notices you’re away from home more than you’re there, but you simply say that you met an old friend at the club that night and you’ve been hanging out with them. It’s not necessarily a lie, and she buys it regardless; she’s so busy with Ushijima and school that you doubt she really notices how much you’re missing anyway.
Most days, Miwa or Kageyama’s driver picks you up from the university in the afternoon, and you spend the rest of your evening in the penthouse. Sometimes, you sit by Kageyama’s bed and do homework while he rests, which most of the time ends up being a fight to get him to stay in bed while he insists he’s well enough to work. Other days, mostly when Kageyama is too tired to put up much of a fight, you hang out with Miwa, watching movies or cooking dinner together.
It surprises you, just how easily you fit into their lives. Miwa says so as well, telling you that it has to be fate; there’s no way that someone could adjust to their lifestyle as quickly and as well as you do. You spend a lot of time thinking; you don’t mind being with them, in fact, you cherish your time at the penthouse. Kageyama’s job doesn’t phase you as much anymore. You don’t think about it when you spend time with him or Miwa, instead, you think about how appreciative you are for their roles in your life.
Most recently, you’ve started helping Miwa with a task she deems “Mission: Impossible”. Apparently, Kageyama is disastrous when it comes to organization, so she’s taking the opportunity of him being bedridden to organize his office and the rest of the house. You don’t bat an eye when you and Miwa categorize what she refers to as the “weapons closet” or even when you come across files of all the hits that Kageyama has ever put out. The only thing that even makes you pause is when you come across Kageyama’s secret stash of marijuana.
“Really?” You hold the plastic bag up in one hand, your other hand on your hip. “Blunts?”
Kageyama just groans, sitting up. “If you and Miwa weren’t going through all my shit, you never would’ve found it.”
“Your shit is a mess! When was the last time you organized anything in this house?”
Kageyama brings his hand up, scratching the back of his hand. “Uh, never?”
“I can’t believe you.” You collapse onto the chair next to his bed, tossing the bag to him. “Now where’s the lighter?”
---
When Kageyama is finally cleared by Kiyoko to go back to work, you think that you won’t be seeing him and Miwa as often. You assume that they’ll be busy with whatever it is they do normally, so it comes as a surprise when you see Kageyama waiting for you after your last class.
He’s leaning on a black McLaren Artura, turned away from you as he talks on the phone. You stop on the steps of your lab building, pausing to look at him while he’s not paying attention. After seeing him in sweats and t-shirts with messy hair for weeks while he recovered, it shocks you to see him in formal attire again. The late fall chill embraces you as you survey the black jeans and dark jacket, the wind-whipped hair and gold chain peeking out from beneath his collar. It’s times like these when your breath fully leaves you at how attractive Kageyama is. He’s receiving many stares, whether it’s from the boys checking out his car or the girls checking out him. He remains oblivious as always, talking pointedly into the phone until he spots you.
He hangs up and opens the Artura’s door for you when you approach. You can feel the whispers surrounding you, but you ignore them in favor of sticking your chilling fingers in front of the car’s heat vent. Kageyama starts the car and peels out of the parking lot.
“I’m surprised to see you today. I thought you would’ve been busy on your first day back.”
He shrugs, giving a noncommittal hum. “It was mostly boring shit, meetings and such. I was completely over it by noon, so Miwa took over the last few for me.”
“You’re done already?” It’s only four in the afternoon, and you know he normally works much, much later than that.
“Done for now. I’ll go into the club later tonight to check on a few things, but that’s at least interesting.”
“Hm.” Looking out the window, you notice that you’re not heading towards the penthouse. “Where are we going?”
“I’m taking you out.”
You choke on air; as someone with Kageyama’s career, this could mean one of two things. “O-on a date?”
“Yeah,” he glances at you, “what else would that mean?”
“You don’t want to know what I was thinking.”
“Damn, y/n, I’m not going to kill you.” The wry smile on his face warns you of his upcoming words. “That would get blood on my seats.”
“Haha.” You roll your eyes and punch him lightly on the shoulder. “But really, you’re taking me out on a date? You didn’t even ask.”
“Well it’s more of a ‘thank you for nursing me back from the dead and helping Miwa’ date, but it can also be a real date, if you want that.”
The slight nervousness in his voice makes you grin. Only Kageyama could shoot someone in cold blood and be afraid to ask a girl out. “Okay.”
You watch as he glances at you out of the corner of his eye, a sly smile on his face. “Okay?”

The atmosphere in the room is dark, the damp scent filling your nose. There’s a door in front of you, a small window spilling light from the hallway into the square room. Approaching it slowly, you push it, only to open it into another dark room. This one is different; there’s a young boy sitting in the corner. He looks disheveled, black hair tangled and thin body shaking. You come closer to ask him why he’s here, why you are here, but when he looks up, he disappears.
Spinning to the door you came in through, you see his blue eyes gazing through the small window, taunting you. You push the door, finally spilling out into the hallway. The boy is at the end, about to turn the corner, looking back at you, seemingly asking you to follow.
You do, running to catch up, but the hallways are winding, with sharp corners and countless turns making you run in large circles. The boy is constantly just out of reach; every time you get close, he’s gone before your eyes. You’re tired of running, tired of following, tired of trying to catch up, but you know, somewhere in your brain, that he is your goal. You have to find him, have to help him, regardless of how unattainable he seems.
When you wake in the middle of the night in your unlit bedroom, you’re gasping for air and shivering, his presence in your dreams making you uneasy.
---
Kageyama Tobio runs a hand through his hair and tosses the glock onto his desk. He’s tired, so tired, but the night is far from over. The underground of Tokyo is just waking up, and he has work to do.
He opens the locked drawer in his desk with his thumb, the sensor beeping and lighting up green. He searches for the only thing that can calm him down on nights like these: a singular photo, edges crumpled from how often he holds it, the creasing disrupting the subjects from how often it is folded, tucked away in the pocket of his suit jacket.
The tears that appear in the corners of his eyes are ignored, as they always are. The photo is once again folded and tucked into his pocket. He does not dwell on the subjects of the photo; he has done enough of that in the past. He can recreate every detail of the picture in his mind, from the way only one of his shoes is tied, to the pattern and type of flowers on the girl’s dress.
The door to his office is knocked on, and he unlocks it from a switch on the underside of his desk, allowing his second in command to walk in.
Kageyama Miwa drops a file on his desk, and steps back to cross her arms and peer down at him. Even all these years later, his sister is the only one who can read him, who can make him feel small.
“This week’s report,” she gestures to the file, “but how long are you going to keep this up? It’s been four years, Bi.”
Miwa is also the only one who calls him anything other than Master or Sir Kageyama, but he doesn’t know why she has to stick with his childhood nickname.
He looks away, even though she’ll read everything on his face regardless. “Why does it matter? It’s not hurting anyone.”
“It’s hurting you.” He looks back at her, eyes blazing, ready to argue, but she cuts him off. “It’s hurting you, to know what she’s up to. Even if you say it isn’t, even if it’s only you and I who know about it, it’s hurting you.” Kageyama lets his mouth fall close, harsh words dying on his tongue. He hates when Miwa is right.
She comes closer, bending down to give him a half-hug and ruffle his hair. “You need to let her go, Bi.”
“I know.” He does know, but it’s hard.
“I’ll help you, if you need it. You know I’m always on your side.”
“I know.” He knows this as well, better than anything else. If there’s anyone who will always be there for him, it’s his sister.
She holds her hands out, and he grabs them, allowing her to pull him up and take some of the weight off of his shoulders, if only for a few seconds. “C’mon, we have work to do.”
---
The line to get inside the club is long, and upon seeing it, you groan. You should’ve known that everywhere would be packed on a Friday. You turn away, ready to keep walking until you reach another neon sign offering dancing and alcohol, but your best friend stops you with a hand on the wrist.
“C’mon y/n, we’re going here.”
“Do you not see the line?” You scoff at Hana’s pleading voice. “There are a dozen other clubs on this street, we can go to one of those.”
Her grin is nearly maniacal as she reaches into her clutch to pull out a thin black card. “The guy I slept with last week has a membership here, and he gave me his second card. We just have to wave this, and we’re good to go.”
You’re grinning now, too. Leave it to Hana to use her flings to her advantage. This isn’t the first time she’s done something like this, and you doubt it will be the last. She pulls on your wrist, dragging you to the empty VIP line. The bouncer looks at the card and the name on it, and it appears her latest fling does in fact have a membership, because he whispers to the bouncer next to him, and less then a minute later, you two are led inside by what appears to be a college-aged girl.
She greets you both with a smile as you bypass the first floor, lit with neon blue lights sporting the club’s name, Shadow. “I’m Yuki, and I’ll be your waitress for the night. Have you two been here before?”
You both shake your head, and she continues, leading you to an elevator. “Well, you’re in luck. The membership you have is of our highest level, and the gentleman on the primary account is one of our most esteemed customers.” Hana shoots you a grin, proud of herself for bagging a halfway decent guy for once, and you shake your head in return, a smile on your face. “You’ll be seated on the top floor, which has a full bar and a private dance floor only for black card members. You’re welcome to explore the entirety of the club, just bring the card with you to regain access to the top floor.” She pauses as an attendant calls the elevator, then steps inside when it arrives. “If you need anything, anything at all, just let me know.”
The doors open, and it’s like stepping into a whole different club. The one up here is significantly classier, accented in a stormy dark blue and granite gray. You arrive on what seems to be the bar and seating area, which is fairly empty, but the sunken dance floor is packed. Yuki leads you to a raised booth near the bar with a perfect view of the entire space.
“This is Toshiro, he’ll be your personal attendant. If you need anything and I’m not around, leave it to him.” She gestures to a man standing next to the booth, who greets both of you with a nod. Yuki leaves, promising to return soon to take your drink orders.
“This place is crazy.” Hana looks around, eyes wide as she surveys the entire place.
“It definitely is. Keep this guy.” You nod to the card, still clutched in her fist, and she grins.
Yuki returns with complimentary champagne and later, with round after round of cocktails. You and Hana are happily tipsy, jumping around on the dance floor, when something catches your eye. There’s a guy at the bar, facing away from you, alone, which in itself is weird, as it seems everyone in the club has a partner (or a few). What really catches your attention, though, is the guy’s wide shoulders and the way his muscles ripple under the dark dress shirt he’s wearing. You tap Hana on the shoulder, promising to be back in a few minutes, and head towards the bar.
You don’t go directly towards the man, instead waiting by another group of people further down. You keep your eyes on him, watching as he appears to have a deep conversation with the bartender. You internally groan, hoping he isn’t already wasted if you’re going to have a chance to take him home. The bartender laughs at something he says and steps back, eyes scanning over you and the group next to you. When her eyes meet yours, something in her face shifts, and she leans back down to whisper something to the man. Something about her seems familiar, but you can’t put your finger on what it is. Half of her shoulder-length hair is pulled back into a low bun, and her sapphire eyes remind you too much of another’s. She pulls back from the man again and approaches you with an inviting smile on her face.
“What can I get for you?”
“Just a martini please.”
“You got it.” She prepares it with the ease of someone who has made the same drink a thousand times, and before you know it, she’s sliding the drink across the bar to you. “What’s your name?”
Normally, you’d be against giving out your name to strangers, but something in her gaze allows you to drop your guard. You give her a wide smile. “Y/n.”
There’s a crash from down the bar, and you turn, martini in hand, to see the man staring right at you, piercing blue eyes making you feel like you were just dunked in ice cold water.
The martini slips from your hand, glass shattering on the floor, as you look into the eyes of Kageyama Tobio.
