A lot of male writers seem to get really weird and precious about depicting female characters, so much so that they slide into Strong Female Character beats, which is my little theory on why the Rey comic fell so flat. It’s all positive platitudes and very little depth, which I know isn’t a fault of the writing in general because the same writer was able to mine complexity out of a Hux comic. And I feel like the EU could focus more on Rey’s struggles and interior life but haven’t so far
