However, one American casualty at the Battle of Princeton was General Hugh Mercer. Mercer was mortally wounded at the Battle and died nine days later on Jan. 12. His wounding was depicted in John Trumbull's painting The Death of General Mercer at the Battle of Princeton, January 3, 1777, which is part of Yale University Art Gallery's collection.
