The Chapter on Making Friends

Until recently I really haven’t understood how friendship works. Like how do people make friends and keep them? I have people who I’ve considered friends for years, but not like *friends*. If you asked me if I was friends with a person, I would answer yes, but not because my relationship with them was any different than that of any other person I know fairly well; mostly because to call them just an acquaintance seems rude.

Lately, people have been asking me to *hang out*?? Like- consistently?? And start conversations with me?? Is this what friendship is?? It’s kind of a lot of work. I’m so used to sitting uninterrupted in my own thoughts, that I almost prefer it. Not healthy at all, I realize.
