How to Make and Brew Your Own Sleepy Time Tea
Sipping on a warm cup of tea before bed is one of our many tips on how to sleep better during the night. Teas containing chamomile, lemon balm, passionflower and lavender act as natural sleep aids. When steeped in boiling water and consumed, these herbs have a mild sedative effect on the mind, body and spirit. Here is one of our favorite calming and aromatic sleepy time tea recipe with instructions how to make tea with our favorite sleep inducing herbs.
What you need:
Water
A teapot (electric or stove-top)
Your favorite mug or teacup
A tea infuser
And the ingredients listed below
Ingredients:
3 parts chamomile
2 parts peppermint
2 parts lemon balm
1 part lavender and passionflower
1 part catnip
1/4 part valerian root
Directions:
Combine and lightly mix herbs in a bowl.
Boil water on the stove.
Place 1/2 – 1 tablespoons of tea in a tea infuser.
Place infuser in the mug and fill the mug with hot water.
Let your tea steep for 2-5 minutes before removing the infuser.
Properly save your extra herbal tea blend in an air tight container. Store the container in a cool, dark, dry place to enjoy for weeks to come.
Enjoy and sweet dreams!
BENEFITS OF CHAMOMILE: Chamomile is a century old medicinal herb used to treat insomnia, fevers, colds, stomach aches and inflammation. Because of these benefits, this special herb is the foundation for our sleepy time tea blend.
BENEFITS OF PEPPERMINT: We have added peppermint, which gives the tea a refreshing flavor and helps soothe the stomach.
BENEFITS OF LEMON BALM: Hailing from the mint family of herbs, lemon balm helps with digestive problems and strengthens the immune system.
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER AND PASSIONFLOWER: A mixture of 1/2 part lavender and 1/2 part passionflower adds a sweet floral taste to the tea while also aiding with digestion, muscle tension and stress.
BENEFITS OF CATNIP: Catnip is often used for its calming effects on the mind, body and stomach as well as an herbal remedy to treat anxiety and insomnia.
BENEFITS OF VALERIAN ROOT: Well known for its sedative qualities, adding a pinch of Valerian root to your tea will relax your central nervous system and your involuntary muscle groups (think the muscle groupings that support and surround vital organs). Valerian root’s aroma is not pleasing to the senses so be careful when adding it to your tea.
