Harry and Hermione are talking about the tournament
Luna overhears and says that maybe there’s a way out, as no one really knows much about the cup
Hermione says that they have no way of knowing if there was a way out, as she already researched basically every book that may help, from books about magical oaths to the story of the Triwizard tournament
Luna comments that they can always ask the Champion of Magic
Cue confusion on Harry and Hermione’s part
Well, mostly
Hermione once may or may not have read a legend about the Champion
Luna comments that they surely have felt the magic settle slightly and prepare for something a while/year(s)/etc ago?
Hermione and Harry just share a look, because no matter how oblivious Harry is, even he kinda felt it even if at the time he didn’t know what it was
Cue Luna saying that it was obviously just the Wizard Shazam choosing his new Champion
Hermione awkwardly saying that they couldn’t be sure it was that, only for Luna to comment that even the Magician Newspaper commented on it, with the same conclusion
Cue confusion, again
Cue Hermione spending the next 30, and possibly more, minutes hunting for a book about the different types of magic (and theorizing that the wizardry world must be in the category of magic blood, although probably maybe a few times removed) while Luna quickly gets a few of the editions of the newspaper she was talking about, as apparently the library had a small stand with a few things about the magician type of magic, quickly finding the edition that mentioned the Champion possible return
Luna then says that, if the Champion is really back (which she believes that they are), then it wouldn’t hurt to send a message asking for help
Cue Harry, Hermione and Luna (who was there as she knew how to write a formal pureblood letter) spending that afternoon writing a letter to send to the Champion and to give it to Hedwig for her to take to the Rock of Eternity
It takes a while to arrive
Billy is Confusion when he gets the letter
Because What
Cue him asking John about it
Who is equally confused about it
Cue John ending up asking Zatanna about it because Billy got busy with superhero and school stuff
Cue Zatanna asking how John got the letter because it was Clearly meant for the Champion of Magic, who no one who it is, and it has traces from the Rock of Eternity
Cue me realizing that I use a lot of cues here
John are you the Champion of Magic?????????
No Zatanna, it's a 12-year-old boy that can transform into an adult and is a superhero
Cue roll of eyes
John quickly explains how he ended up meeting the Champion a while ago and was approached today by him and asked about it, and they (John and the Champion) were wondering if Zatanna knew about the school
Zatanna says no but says she is willing to help them find the school
They (meaning, John and Zatanna, as Billy Is Still Busy and relies on John to pass messages of possible things he finds on his short free time) end up agreeing that there must be at least some sort of organization/civilization surrounding the school for it to exist
Cue Zatanna remembering that one time her father and her couldn’t go to a state for a few months because they were being hunted down by a group called something-usa? Macusa, following her old diary, because apparently they showed revealed magic?
That may be a lead
John and Zatanna team up and find the hq of Macusa, where from there find other important thing, thanks to people thinking that they are British immigrants thanks to John’s accent and Zatanna quickly adopting a fake one that she did without magic, to not blow the cover in case they did a spell check on them
John and Zatanna spend a whole week looking over the books they gathered with Batman looking over their shoulders and taking note of everything and John sending weekly reports to Billy
When they finally feel that they know enough to at least appear knowledgeable about the magics of the society, they meet up to go to Hogwarts
And Zatanna (dressed nicely as she is meeting the freaking Champion Of Magic) meeting Captain Marvel, and asking where the Champion is, while looking over Billy’s shoulder, only to be shocked when Billy reveals that he is the Champion and is able to prove it
Anyway, the soon head to Hogwarts, where it has been a while since Harry, Hermione and Luna sent the letter, only for the schools to be surprised with the dramatic entrance made by Captain Marvel (not hiding his Champion thing), Zatanna and John
Cue formalities and people assuming that John and Zatanna are Captain Marvel’s workers/protégé’s only for him to be like “Nah, these are kind of my colleagues, they usually help me a lot, I trust them with my life I would die for them”
Because of that People just like, respect Zatanna and John a lot
Purebloods don’t even bother asking them if they are purebloods because the Champion would only say that about purebloods, right?
Continuing on, Billy, acting all serious, asks to see the goblet of fire, causing the minister with a few heads of the darker houses to appear while people bring in the goblet
The trio ignores Fudge and concentrates on analysing the goblet
Meanwhile, muggleborns are still processing the fact that Zatanna and Captain Marvel are here right now
When they are done, with either Billy knowing exactly how to break the oath safely, but it will take a while or with him declaring he needs to do a bit more of research and maybe talk with a few lords and ladies of order, Billy calls forth Hermione, Luna and Harry and basically says “Look, we will try to help as much, but to try and be fair how about you ‘transfer’ to a ‘school’ under John, Zatanna and I, plus maybe a few others, so that the schools get a fair chance of winning?”
Cue Zatanna and John looking at him like What
They Did Not talk about this Billy!!!
The trio of students accepts the offer, with maybe John saying that he will deal with this later and saying that he needs to check out a place where they have been complaints about [insert here description of a magical creature] and he wants to see if it is something of his expertise
Only for Luna to be like “That sounds like a [insert here name of an animal that people don’t think exists], you should use [insert here method that won’t arm the creature]”
John interest is picked
Anyway, that’s all I got
Plus the fact that Billy get’s referred to as ‘Lord Shazam’ at one point
