Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Midnight launch at Watersones Piccadilly ⚡️
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child ⚡️
30/7/16
Today was the day! I didn’t made a plan for today so I mailed some postcards and did some grocery shopping. I even found some cute masuring spoons and cups.
The rest of my afternoon was really relaxing. I spent some hours at the Battersea park reading Jessica Burton’s The Muse.
It was only 6pm and time wouldn’t pass. I called a good friend of mine and we talked about London, Harry Potter and had a good laugh. 😊
And I was almost time I got dressed got on the bus and here I was, Piccadilly Circus. Even at 9pm it was still busy and loud and the bright adverts enlightened the streets. I quickly found the way to Waterstones and got in line. In front of me stand a girl wearing a Gryffindor sweater, she was about my age. I was just checking my outfit as she asked me where I’m from. Her name was Rachel and she’s from Canada. While we waited she told me she went to Frankfurt, for the Quidditch World Cup, with the Quidditch Canada Team. It was pretty cool to meet someone who actually involved this sport, Rachel is their Referee.
While we waited we got a golden envelope in there was a map of the floors, the token we would traid for the book at midnight, drinks voucher, a WB Studio Tour bookmark and badge.
Rachel and I decided to stay together and as the clock striked 10 the doors opened and an amazing night began.
I walked in and on each side of the door stand a Dementor they really looked scary. The first thing I noticed was the huge 3D picture of Cursed Child and the second thing was the music. At first I thought it’s just a CD but there in font of the till point sat a 4-piece orchestra playing beautiful Harry Potter tunes.
Straight ahead they had built an actual ‘cupboard under the stairs’ and above on the gallery there were displayed costumes of the used in the movies. There even was Hagrids original big flying motorbike. Rachel and I took photos in the cupboard and then went to check out the 1st floor.
It felt like being back in Orlando walking through 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’. In front of me were a Bar, a Sweet shop, a Book shop and a Wand shop. Everything looked like Diagon Ally. We grabbed some alcoholic Butterbeer. It was caramel rum with some kind of carbonated beverage with cream on top. What ever it was, it tasted delicious! 😋 Rachel and I entered the Sweet shop and a kind employe told us to take a bag and but in it whatever our heart desires and, if we are lucky to find one, to grab one of the big lollipops.
Fudge, pear sweets, chocolate coins, marshmallows coverd in chocolate and sugar mice went into my bag. As I was about to leave the shop I spyed on the bottom of a shelf a lollipop, lying on top of a pile of books. 🍭
To our right were the 'London Unspeakables’ playing Quidditch. As Rachel is part of a Qudditch team she knew a lot of people from the London team and introduced me to Willow. We stayed and watched them play (some sort of) Qudditch. It was fun to watch and it seemed to be a really exhausting and challenging sport.
On the 2nd floor they had set up Hagrids hut, prepared a face painting and a “decorate your cauldron cake” station. We took photos infront of the hut and decorated a muffin (we even came back later this evening because they were so delicious ^^). You could use frosting (I used strawberry/vanilla), eatable beads/stars, sprinkles and eatable paper with the Hogwarts houses on it.
The 3rd floor was of course the forbidden corridor 😉 “And finally, I must tell you that this year, the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death.” - Albus Dumbledore (Philosopher’s Stone)
On the 4th floor were some real props from the movies displayed, they made a quiz and you could watch Deathly Hallows Part 2 (incase you wanted to relive all the sad deaths and bawl your eyes out).
Still one hour to go Rachel and I decided to visit the ground floor to refill our Butterbeer. Down there it looked like the Three Broomsticks, the popular bar in Hogsmade, we stayed there for a bit ate Bertie Botts Beans and talked about the J.K. Rowling tour Rachel had made in Edinburgh.
We still had time til Midnight so we vistied the floors again and met even more Quidditch players Rachel knew. 15 minutes before Midnight we started to queue (on the stairs of the 4th floor) for the book.
5 minutes to go they revealed who had won a signed copy and behind us a girl screamed, laughed and cried when the number 222 came up, it was clear she couldn’t believe how lucky she was.
0:22 I finaly got my copy of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ 😍🙌🏼
We walked outside and took selfies with the book. Rachel and I took a picture together before we headed home.
I was hooked from the first page, it was great to be back in the magical world J.K. Rowling created for us. I read untli 2am.
It was a night I will never forget, I had so much fun and I have met so many lovely people.
May ✨
