Mae Borowski is quite the interesting character, as she is very multifaceted(a thing that can be hard for making a videogame character).
As far as I can conclude, she goes through a transformation of different aspects(potientially through the idea of Role-playing, made by RevolutionaryDuelist).
So, lets go down this rabbit hole of
THE (K)NIGHT IN THE WOODS
Knight Class:
Mae do doth display the personality-hiding element of a Knight, as she often acts like a jerk at the beginning of the game, but means well(even if extremely deep down.)
Another speculation of mine is that she is a Bard as well. She does break down norms, rules, laws, etc.; usually in a passive manner.
In the sense of a Knight using their aspect as a weapon or defense, I'm unsure of this(I've never played the game nor seen playthroughs.) but I do know she will do them for others.
Perhaps she even serves them.
Or in the Bard area, destroy things(or through things) for others. A chaotic neutral/good. Mostly neutral if you ask me.
Her Varied Aspects:
Mae, throughout the game and in the implied substories seemingly switches or fades in and out of aspects. I will list these in vague senses, with vague evidence as it is 1:30 ish in the morning.
Doom: doom represents rules, futility, death, destruction(fire, explosions, etc.), and, technology. As far as I know, Mae doesn't really go with the technology part as much. On the flipside, she displays the others pretty well. Her fondness for breaking things, like rules, goes good with her Bard-like nature; Futility in the strange mood the game sets, as it has its moments of death, and Mae is there for it- willingly or not. On the Knight side, Mae gives off a vibe of lament, and this occasionally goes out to her friends(or vice-versa).
(Side note: I am currently experiencing an episode of the feeling of plummeting, so I feel sick and may not be able to function as well...)
Rage: Contrivancy, Theatricality, Drama, Negative Emotions, Passion and Desires, Ambition, Pain. Mae does fit in well with rage, and I feel this aspect may(Mae for a pun) suit her true personality rather than the persona she displays. In the Knight sense, Mae gives out her feelings about Rage and uses it to fight and defend herself(usually via being mean). The Rage aspect can also relate to her astral projection among other things. The understanding that not much matters, and such. God, I am tired.
Finally, we have Blood: Blood is stubbornness, connections, literal blood, chains/bonds- metaphorical or literal, platonic relationships, and society. Mae is a rebel, breaking down social norms by being herself and just pretending to be cool and against authority.(this is very Bard-like. I might change her to full-on Bard, but I don't feel like redoing the picture.) As a Knight, Mae bonds with her family and friends, eventually using this to her and her bonds' advantage (via stopping the bad guys- cultists and such).
Mae is pansexual, and I like that. It also fits in with a Bard of Blood. I like it. I also like that it doesn't directly influence the game, and is just a identity she has, like it was normal- which I believe should be normal.
In conclusion, Mae is mostly a Bard, maybe of Blood, perhaps of Rage. She is a mysterious character with lots to go over, but even an over-analyst can't harness that knowledge.
