Memorial Park Bridge Beams Set

Memorial Drive was closed last weekend as contractors Tellepsen and Texas Stirling set girders for three new bridges using large cranes. LGA is leading a team of landscape architects, engineers and lighting designers in creating an immersive new experience for runners and walkers along the Seymour Lieberman Trail. The trail is set back from Memorial Drive, winding through treetops across ravines. Construction will be completed this Fall.

Jane Long Academy SPARK Park Dedicated

US Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher and State Representative Gene Wu joined HISD officials, SPARK executive director Kathleen Ownby, neighbors and students in cutting the ribbon for this $300,000 park on the middle school campus.  LGA designed the park to include a new playground and obstacle course, exercise equipment area, renovated track and football field, along with mosaic columns by artist Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw.  The Houston Dynamo donated a soccer mini-pitch. The park was made possible by funding from the Kinder Foundation, Houston Endowment, students’ families and neighbors. LGA has designed more than 40 SPARK Parks in Houston.

“A Life Illuminated” Unveiled at Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza

Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw’s gorgeous mosaic panels were unveiled at the Children’s Reading Room in the Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza in downtown Houston.  LGA lead a team of landscape architects, architects, artists, lighting designers and engineers in renovating the plaza at the central library complex, creating a thought-provoking, inviting space for promoting literacy in the former First Lady’s honor.

Scenic Houston’s 2022 Scenic Star Reception

Lauren Griffith joined the SPARK team as the SPARK School Park Program and Hermann Park Conservancy were honored by Scenic Houston for their contributions to parks. LGA has designed more than 40 SPARK Parks and has worked with Hermann Park on many projects, including the Hermann Park Dog Park currently in permitting.

Space Habitat Design Challenge  -  Final Review

Professor Hope Rising invited Cheryl Huffman to serve as a juror for urban design studio LAND312.  Student concepts included an International Space University, International Space City, International Moon Base, and International Mars Base.  The semester’s efforts will be shared with the United Nations Office of the Outer Space Affairs and will also be submitted for national ASLA student awards.

Memorial Park Conservancy Gala

LGA and Walter P Moore hosted a table in support of the Memorial Park Conservancy in LGA’s Eastern Glades. Our team is currently collaborating on bridging ravines and realigning the Seymour Liebermann Trail to move it away from Memorial Drive and wind it through treetops. Lisa Johnson from the City of Houston and her husband Scott joined LGA’s Lauren Griffith, Cheryl Huffman, and Leticia Garcia.
