Got a fic idea in mind. Typical character A & B get stranded on an exotic island, but for Vigcup. It's got whump in the center (stranded on an island, far away from home and loved ones, you know) but not particularly dark whump. Missing, presumed dead, eating the wrong thing and barely not dying, injuries, infections, environmental whump, etc. Smut.

But no idea what time period to put it in. Canon Viking age or Modern AU? Maybe I'll throw in a Victorian AU just for the funsies, idk. They all have their pros and cons.

What time period should this fic take place in?

Pros:

RttE backstory

Shipwreck or crashed with dragon

Hiccup could be chief.

Hiccup is not used to temperatures above freezing, let alone very warm weather.

No Modern day knowledge. (Just stitch up that wound and hope it'll be okay)

Cons:

No Victorian aesthetic.

No Modern aesthetic.

Might be stuck for life, who knows.

Victorian AU:

Pros:

The aesthetic

Shipwreck or crashed with dragon

Homebase made of parts of the ship, probably mainly wood.

Victorian smut

Cons:

No RttE background.

Nothing Viking or Modern related.

Might be stuck for life, who knows.

Modern AU:

Pros:

Social media exists.

Viggo is rich, so attractive rich man/attractive not-rich man trope.

A more sure way that they'll be found and not end up in a YouTube video about the mystery of their disappearance.

Shipwreck or planecrash.

Modern day knowledge. (Probably have at least one first aid kit)

Homebase partially made of either ship or plane wreck, metal, isolation, modern materials.

Modern aesthetic.

Cons:

Likely no RttE backstory (maybe some animosity, but nothing like a war in RttE)

No Victorian aesthetic.

*Modern and Victorian AUs don't change the fact that dragons exist. (But if Toothless were stranded with them, they wouldn't really be stranded, so you know, Hiccup and Toothless have been separated.)
