There are so many plot conveniences in the Hidden World it’s unreal. Like it’s not that stories should be completely realistic, cos that’d be boring, it’s just...when I’m writing, I always ask myself “is this something the character would actually do? Is this something a normal, sane person capable of forethought would actually do?” If the answer is no, then I don’t write that in.  They didn’t have to have the village be overcrowded with dragons. Dean wanted it that way to make it look like the Berkians way of life was “unsustainable”, or whatever he said in the art book. Or an interview, idk.
