SPEAKING OF HTTYD OST!

I don't know why it took me until now to notice it's been 15 years but ANYWAYS!

The night fury theme I mentioned much much earlier! (Wrote this one and saved it to drafts after fangirling abt that soundtrack weeks ago) You guys know that's it's technically Toothless's theme, right? Particularly the parts of it played during emotional moments. It's the same melody but slightly shifted emotions

So, Toothless's theme

Now then, I started listening to Httyd 2010s OSTs on random and realized, Hiccup also has a theme, a combination of multiple moments throughout the movie where the focus is on him, his personality and character and it is basically what we hear in This Is Berk and during all the moments where Hiccup is the focus, Hiccup doing his own stuff

Anyways, you might recognize it if you hear it

And- and

The two themes they combine so well together they sound like the same one. Their melody is so matchable

And! And when the two flew together for the first time in Test Drive, parts of Hiccup's theme and parts of Toothless' were both integrated into the score and I'm just. Please they joined to become one during that sequence and so did their themes and I love that so much

No but be real, EVERYTHING THIS MAN MAKES FUCKING SLAPS. EVEN THE MOST PHONED IN TRACKS WERE INSANE. NO, THE OST WAS NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS IN THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY BUT OH MY GOD IT WAS STILL BANGER. THIS MAN. I KNEW I WAS RIGHT TO HAVE FAITH IN YOU JOHN POWELL. THANK YOU. ILY

HTTYD SOUNDTRACK

good evening folks. i’m crying over the how to train your dragon soundtrack(s) and it’s killing me (again).

i hope somebody out there relates to the intense visceral feeling i get in the beginning of “stoick saves hiccup” from the second movie. pure childhood nostalgia. pure melancholy. pure tears because of the way powell constructed the song and how it uses that theme (which is so familiar that i feel like it was actually introduced in the first movie but im not sure). guys. guyyyyyys. that THEME.

i actually feel like i’m going to explode every time i restart the song. like every single time. because of that theme. i’ve put it in every playlist that suits it and in every tier of bittersweet melancholy sad playlist i have and yet i am STILL unsatisfied and i feel as though new playlist for a new tier must be created because this feeling is so intense and different

i might just be having a Moment because i’m writing this at 1:30am. but what. the fuck. (and that’s not the only bit that’s hitting me in the feels. it’s the WHOLE DAMN SOUNDTRACK. with specific songs giving me specific feelings. *screams*)

somebody please talk to me about how to train your dragon’s soundtrack because i’m losing my mind and i say that about a lot of things i love but this is so different and raw and strange

like i can’t even describe how much these movies mean to me and a huge chunk of that is the soundtrack. like i can barely type right now because all i want is to be able to plaster my feelings and the music onto this post because nothing else is working to describe it. i keep trying to speak but what comes out is “guh” because i want to express the music desperately and physically

(i saw it in a theater recently and that triggered this hyperfixation. got so many chills and tears during that showing. like i feel like im going to actually blow up just thinking about it)

So I just teared up an insane amount when Valka and Cloudjumper make their first appearance and the score crescendos. Fucking hell.

All of the httyd soundtrack is a masterpiece, but forbidden fucking friendship makes me LEVITATE. Like GOD they didn’t have to do THAT but they DID. Tears of joy fill my eyes every time it plays and that is not an exaggeration.

The motif echo with Hiccup’s Swelling orchestral strings and then Toothless’s modal fiddle and drums will probably forever be one of my favorite pieces of musical storytelling, especially with how instantaneous it is:

-Hiccup’s agonizing paradigm shift and mercy

-the instant Oh SHIT!!? consoquence

-Toothless’s own mercy

It’s the exact same motif. But the building swell for Hiccup, the drastic shift in instrumentation, how quickly the instrumentation change kicks in, the slight rhythmic and tempo and stress changes, how much shorter Toothless’s Section is than Hiccup’s...it’s just So Good
