HUG A CAT DAY!

Here we have young Mildred Gardner of Hartwick, N.Y. in an idyllic porch scene.  I am so impressed with the very still animals and such a sharp image. Animals, especially kitties, in older photos, can tend to look like blurry fuzz balls.  But here you can see all the stripes on those very cute kitties! And you can see the ric-rack ribbon on Mildred’s collar, the checks in her gingham dress, and the wonderful patterns on the cushions.  

This image comes from the 60,000 glass plate negative collection of photographer’s Smith and Telfer. This collection has captured nearly 80 years of Cooperstown, NY and its environs, and remains a vital source for historians, authors, and historic preservationists. Oh it also has many kitties.
