The Inner Circle had known that the choice they were offering Nesta was death or the House of Wind. Obviously, Nesta would not spite them by selecting to go to a place where she would be hunted and burned alive. The Night Court, however, had vastly overestimated her will to live.
Nesta did choose the human lands. She was tried of this Fae existence, of the Night Court, of being a constant, unlovable failure.
But humans have always looked after their own.
Or, where Nesta picks the human lands, expecting to be killed, but instead, they take her in and look after her. Nesta then heals through their sense of community and her own humanity, rather than violence and swords, while the Night Court scrambles after sending away their favourite weapon.
