Curra's Grill Site Redesign
My first priority in redesigning the Curra's Grill site was to get away from their original logo (1st photo) but use a different form of branding that they already had displayed with the outdoor sign (2nd photo). I recreated the look of the outdoor sign (3rd photo) and implemented it into a new layout for the website (below).

East Austin Motion Project
This project was meant to capture the same qualities of East Austin that I focused on in my book—deterioration and rundown objects. I wanted to transition from clean "blueprint-like" line drawings of buildings and objects into their current deteriorated condition. This was slightly over-ambitious because each and every line you see moves independently. With more time I'd like to polish this off further.
Field Guide - Austin's Street Art
For this field guide I wanted to showcase the interesting forms of art expressed on facades of buildings all around Austin. I wanted to emphasize how the walls themselves are the 'canvas' and the art itself uses a variety of materials such as iron, ceramic, glass, plexiglass, and paint. In this book there is art from downtown and from south congress.
Bauhaus Buttons
This set of commemorative buttons features a different set of three buttons for each of the six days the museum is open. The designs for each day are themes based on a specific attribute of the Bauhaus movement. Tuesday and Wednesday focus on typography. Thursday and Friday focus on graphics. Saturday focuses on three famous designers of the movement. And lastly, Sunday shows the Bauhaus’ influence on architectural styles. The buttons are seperated into three groups for each day; General Admission, Students/Faculty, and Members. Each group also has a designated color scheme that stays consistent throughout the week.
East Austin Book
For this project we were asked to pick an area of Austin and chronicle what we observed and researched about the particular place. I chose to explore the East Austin area encompassing several blocks east of I-35 and around Caesar Chavez. In my book I focus on the extreme economic struggles that the area has experienced as a result of a gentrification as well as the sluggish economy. The goal was to make the overall feel of the book very run-down to reflect my observations of homes and businesses in the area. To achieve this feel, I made the front and back covers resemble the weathered wood paneling that I saw on many of the old homes. I took 1/8" basswood panels and literally destroyed them by throwing coins, nails, keys, tools, or anything sharp to create scuffs and all sorts of imperfections. Then I layered them with primer, sanded them, stained them, sanded them, primed them, sanded them, and repeated this pattern several times. Eventually the panels were glued back-to-back to create a more sturdy 1/4" cover for each side. The inside page designs also reflect the run-down feel with the use of earth tones and grunge-like textures.
Symbol for a Cause - Global Warming
This symbol is meant to illustrate the growing concern of global warming. Ice sheets at both poles of the globe are, according to scientists, melting faster than ever before.
TASA Program Booklet
For this project we had to put together a book containing information in a folder full of unorganized text, photos, dates, and numbers. It all related to the annual TASA art conference in Austin, but we were expected to create an effective system of organizing every piece of info into book form. My book was organized by changing the page size of each "Session" to create tabs on the right side allowing quick access to each section of the book. Not the most fun project, in my opinion, but I did gain valuable experience in designing the physical structure of a book.
Critical Mass - Earthquakes
Final
These final 6 images are meant to characterize earthquakes. The first two resemble seismographs and rock textures. The next two are faked realistic images of an earthquake's aftermath. The final two are animated gifs that reflect the actual process that can occur in an earthquake.
