My thoughts on who the Black King may be. (Spoilers for Hurlers)
What we know for sure: ✦ Banished from existence by the Judgements, chained and forever screaming where no one can hear him; ✦ Found by the Anchoress who is now interconnected with his castle (which was erased from the reality too); ✦ The source of the Discordance (a reverse of the Correspondence that is used by dark stars, as mentioned in SSkies); ✦ Motifs of night, reflections and duality ("with two tongues, two mouths, two crowns"). The Black King of the Chessboard Contra: ☒ monarchs of the Chessboard are Parabolan embodiments of ideas/powers, whereas he originated in this world ☒ a "king" is just a usual title of the Judgements (the King of Hours, the Sapphir’d King...) Pro: ☑ mentions of "black chessmen" on the floor of the castle and having been "knocked from the board" ☑ the closeness of his castle to Parabola ☑ now he also seems to exist mostly as a concept that Is-Not The Halved Pro: ☑ formerly binary ☑ a dark Judgement Contra: ☒ still stays in the sky and, well, exists ☒ doesn’t have a second half anymore ☒ there are other dark Judgements, so might as well be any of them The first Devil Pro: ☑ the frozen lake and number 9 instantly bring Dante to mind ☑ his fall from grace by gods’ law ☑ we’re getting close to Hell, so that would be fitting for the plot ☑ goat-demons in his castle lived in Hell before Devils Contra: ☒ only the Judgements are allowed to enact Laws, and even the mightiest Devil Princes were only servants to them Contra-contra: ☑ what if defying this rule was the very reason to cast him down? December Pro: ☑ winter motif ☑ knows the Judgements personally (and hates them) ☑ has similarly weird effects on perception ☑ can’t be named by human language ☑ almost surely may be a manifestation of some eldritch being Contra: ☒ free to exist and act in reality, just like the Halved Contra-contra: ☑ what we see in the castle may be only a memory; it is unclear if the King is still there Equally likely to be a completely new character, of course. But I still hope that old ones like December and unexplored ones like the Black side of the Chessboard won't stay left behind the scenes, especially while their opponents continue to get so much content.
'The Hurlers' Trio of Stone Circles, Minions, Cornwall, 24.7.19.
Before 9.00am this morning I was out on the moorland around 'The Hurlers'. The size of the circles meant I needed to use a telescopic pole to get a shot or two from a height. I was completely surrounded by over 100 cattle, ponies and foals. The farmer arrived and drove past with animal feed and I nearly got squashed in the rush, being chased over the field with my camera on a 15ft pole. All photos here are post-stampede.

Happy 17th bone marrow transplant anniversary to my son. That little red bag is all the stem cells it took, saved from some mother's baby's umbilical cord, to save his life. Before this, his life expectancy was 3-10 years.
Neolithic stones by Tony Via Flickr: The Hurlers is a group of three stone circles. The name "Hurlers" derives from a legend, in which men were playing Cornish hurling on a Sunday and were magically transformed into stones as punishment. The "Pipers" are supposed to be the figures of two men who played tunes on a Sunday and suffered the same fate.
