also UGH the fact that they had Steve say “Hail Hydra” was so gross, yeah i KNOW it was just to convince Sitwell he was on their side but it was still astronomically disrespectful to Joe Simon and Jack Kirby

Tatiana Maslany as a HYDRA Agent
yesterday i read all of the parts of s*cret emp*re that had nat involved in them and i have some feelings (i also re-read infinity countdown: black widow and was reminded how much natasha enjoyed the freedom of being ‘dead’ but that’s a whole other story).
a lot of people (including the champions) considered natasha to be very heartless during hydra’s reign. she was one-track minded and colder towards them than most of the older heroes would have been. she made riri cry, which made me sad. but then, talking to miles, she explained. if they didn’t succeed in what she wanted to do, they needed to be strong enough to be better, to fight what the world was. she believed they were better.
but also, natasha is genuinely so good. knowing that miles had been predicted to kill steve rogers, she did everything she could to take that off his shoulders. if frank hadn’t intervened, she probably would have succeeded. but she died by steve’s hands and her death stopped miles from following a written destiny bc of the bond that she and nadia shared??? but when she heard that her team were dead, she was crying. she wasn’t sleeping. she was on high alert and she was miserable. she cried openly which is not a nat thing to do.
she wanted to make sure that her friend, steve rogers, was killed when he was doing hydra’s will because she knew, she knew he wouldn’t be okay with it. the real steve would never be okay with it. no one else would kill him, no one else could, but she could wear that guilt for the sake of someone she truly cared for. and in the end, she died. she was killed by that very same man shoving his shield into her neck.
i can’t fathom how people still think nat is evil. she’s definitely morally grey in her methods, but her reasoning for a long time has been purely good.
a concept:
zeke buying weapons and tech from adria.n too.mes and his team circa ‘13, being a consistent client throughout the years, even after he defects from h.ydra/shield
Ophelia, my dear. May I have a moment of your time?
// What would Rumlow do if he found a picture of Bucky during Zola's original experimentation?
// not much. I mean, he already knows what becomes of said experimentation and even if he finds more photos and more about how the experimentations themselves were done (which likely he will because 1, this guy literally walked out of history and 2, rum keeps a close eye on those he works with, the asset included), it’s not like he can go ‘hey, listen, you need to stop messing with this guy whom you’ve been messing with since 70 years ago’ at the hydra bosses.
but yeah, I imagine he probably short circuited zola’s super computer brain a couple’a times. maybe ‘accidentally’ poured coffee on the it once or twice.
also though, not that rum’s treatment towards the asset in modern time would change from him finding and reading those files but he’d have a more respectful outlook on the asset. he respects good and earnest fighters and it takes a lot to do what bucky did -- which is also why he’s a valuable asset now that he’s conditioned to be one.
