Essentially in this au, after the Spire, Wizard Cookie is deeply traumatized by the events of the spire: the BraveGang’s near death, the lack of control, the fact that SMC got off (mostly) scot-free.

As a result, he desperately tries to find another way to regain control. If he can protect himself, gb & sc, he can be in control. What better way than an all powerful staff?

Of course, this backfires when the azure staff begins corrupting his mind.
