11. fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year

That’s sort of tricky in that I am enjoying being on the periphery of the ffxv writing community and nervous to show my work there, but I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Still, yugioh is my homeboy and I still love working in and with this fandom. It’s truly an amazing community.

The second question I’ve put under readmore since it’s a fairly personal story.

21. most memorable comment/review

I think this is going to be a strange one, but it was actually a-- hatepost on one of my stories. This was quite a long time ago now, I was about fifteen, fourteen, I think. It was a rather long review, complete with Nostalgia Critic gifs about how I was a terrible person, that I was sick in the head. It was kind of... interesting, because the critique also included a lot of compliments about my skills as a writer, noting that I was clearly had a gift, and beautiful prose-- it was just monstrous how I was using it.

That review really lingered with me. It wasn’t actually meant for me to read, I actually was shown it by a friend who googled my writing handle, so it was hard to find.

I think about it a fair bit, more and more as we’ve seen a rise in the idea that there are things forbidden to write about. I’ve always been headstrong about that, even at that age, so I kinda shrugged a lot of it off. It did and does bother me, of course. I was a kid and it was a very nasty crit. But -- and this might sound very strange -- I was somewhat flattered that they still had to admit they liked my writing.

I’m more mature than I was, I’m a more skilled writer, especially with sensitive subjects, and I also have an even more headstrong view about anti-censorship, and not abusing fic writers even behind their backs. 

But I’ve still got that part of me that is satisfied at being so good at what I do, that even someone who despises and is disgusted by me can admire my writing. It’s definitely not a mature part of me, and I’m not always proud of it, but it is part of me. That drive to be good enough.

Favorite character: Hector Barbossa. It used to be Davy Jones but the events of the 3rd and 4th movie made me love that snarky bastard more than that sad cursed squid.

Least Favorite character: Lord Cutler Beckett

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Oof, I don’t ship much in the fandom. I mean, I guess it’s Will and Elizabeth because I found them really cute in the first movie but then I grew a tad bored of it in the sequels.

Character I find most attractive: None, really.

Character I would marry: None either.

Character I would be best friends with: Elizabeth Swann, because this girl is badass! Oh and Pintel and Ragetti because of their shenanigans!

a random thought: More of a memory when watching Curse of the Black Pearl for the first time. I’ll always remember the scene where Barbossa steps out of she shadow to fall under the moonlight, revealing the curse to Elizabeth. I still remember to this day being utterly fascinated by the scene because it was just… so, so cool and so well done!

An unpopular opinion: I don’t really know what’s popular in the fandom so I can’t answer that one

My Canon OTP: Will/Elizabeth I guess?

My Non-canon OTP: I don’t ship in this fandom so no one

Most Badass Character: Captain Barbossssaaaaa!!!

Most Epic Villain: Davy Jones

Pairing I am not a fan of: Jack/Elizabeth, I never thought they “clicked”.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I wouldn’t say they screwed her up at all times but I think the writers did screw her ending. I’m talking about Elizabeth Swann. The girl has been dreaming of adventures her whole life, she’s shown herself as really badass, determined and lived quite the adventures indeed (I mean, queen of pirates FFS!)… All of this to end with her waiting for Will come back every decade while she raises their child alone? Why couldn’t she go on the damn ship with Will? Why couldn’t she explore the seas or be an adventurer and have her own crew? Whyyyy? (please note: I haven’t seen the 5th movie as I… didn’t really like the 4th -aside for Barbossa I mean- but I vaguely know of what happens. Still doesn’t make up for the fact she abandoned a life of adventures she seems she was made for, in my opinion.)

Favourite Friendship: Pintel and Ragetti

Character I most identify with: Actually… A bit of that duo I mentioned above.

Character I wish I could be: Not be per say but if I could have that snark and general badassery Barbossa has…

character meme: honda/tristan

Why I like them

I find Honda to be a very interesting character in his own right. 

Like, he’s clearly the mom friend, probably the only character to actually deal with Bakura’s bullshit and have the balls to stop him at any chance he got (HE FUCKING PUNCHED HIM AT THE RISK OF HIS OWN LIFE), and I LOVE how he is in season zero. Also, he’s willing to die for his friends because that’s how much he cares about them (death-t is a fucking joke, but I love Honda in it).

He also has this weird habit of being able to carry people around and seeming to be alright with it.

Why I don’t

The anime really screwed up his character during Battle City and afterwards.

Favorite episode (scene if movie)

I’m not sure if I have a favorite episode, he’s not a MAIN main character, at least not enough to get focused on for a whole episode. Hell, even in season three, when he duels, it’s a three way duel against one guy and Honda’s only in the first part. Ouch. I dunno, I just really love a lot of the stuff from Capsule Monsters cause they did his character right in that, and had him fight.

Favorite season/movie

Capsule Monsters, the whole season allowed him to actually get involved with the action instead of being a cheerleader. I also really like his scenes in Pyramid of Light and DSoD.

Favorite line

Can the whole moment of him punching Bakura in the face count as a line?

Favorite outfit

Probably the outfit he wore for a short time in Battle City in the earlier part of the story line.

He plays dumb, but is actually very smart, but it depends on the subject. He’s also very crafty and would do great as a mechanic and designer for cars.

Unpopular opinion

He shouldn’t have been reduced to a weirdo during seasons two and three. The manga, luckily, didn’t play it up too much, but the anime took a few throwaway background jokes of him and Otogi having a crush on Shizuka and took it to a creepy level that wasn’t funny.
