When I let the low blood sugar get too bad before I get up to get a snack...
Did not know this one
Today I discovered my school nurse doesn't know shit about hypoglycemia lmao
Or how blood sugar works apparently
So I was in class and I was getting super shakey. One of my friends, who's a type 1 diabetic, asks me what my blood sugar is. I can't test on my own glucometer because American Healthcare is a bitch and we can't afford more test strips currently. She lets me take my blood sugar on hers (safely, I use my own lancet and she doesn't touch the test strip) because literally every glucometer says on the box you can use it for several people, just don't get the data mixed up and don't use the same lancets. My blood sugar is 62. I had eaten breakfast about 3 1/2 hours prior. She tells me I need to go to the nurse. We get to the nurse, and she scolds my friend for letting me take my blood sugar on her device. She makes me take my blood sugar AGAIN, and surprise suprise, it's still 62. She gives me 3 starbursts, which is fine. About 15-20 minutes after eating them, which is plenty of time for my blood sugar to go up, she makes me take it again. I'm expecting it to be around 70-80. Nope. It's 61. Which is a tad bit concerning. The nurse proceeds to tell me, "Well since it's above 60, it isn't technically considered low. It's probably from fasting, so I can send you back to class." Which is 1. Not true, below 70 is considered low less than 8 hours after eating and 2. Completely disregarding the fact that I had eaten breakfast 3 1/2 hours prior and LITERALLY JUST HAD STARBURSTS, yet my blood sugar WENT DOWN. Not only that, but this isn't the first time my blood sugar's been low and went down after eating. But I'm too tired and pissed off at her to argue about my own disability, so I go back to class.
Anyways, moral of the story is that if I end up going into a coma or having a seizure from blood sugar reasons, it's probably because of my school nurse
Pros of having hypoglycemia: Get to drink mountain dew for medical purposes Cons of having hypoglycemia: Having hypoglycemia
Does your tongue get numb when you’re having a low blood sugar? I would like to know if this is a universal experience or not because I’ve never heard anyone talk about it
I have a sneaky suspicion that Rikido Sato’s quirk makes him chronically hypoglycemic (have low blood sugar). In order to believe this, you have to make one major assumption that should be a ‘no duh’: the physics of the MHA world does not maych ours. An example of this would be Katsuki Bakugo. He sweats nitroglycerin or a nitroglycerin-like substance. He should not be able to ignite his sweat at will unless he has a way to generate something like static electricity at will (we don’t need to go down this rabbit hole right now). So here is my reasoning:
1. Sato has a quirk he calls sugar rush. By eating 10 grams of sugar, he gains an increase of strength for a short amount of time in exchange for a gradual decrease in mental functions.
2. Because of his quirk, his pancreas is programmed to pump out more insulin than normal.
3. He has a miniature kitchen in his dorm room that allows him to cook sweets whenever he wants. Now, this is explained as him liking to bake because of his quirk, but I digress.
4. Assuming its not just a hobby, why would he need that in his dorm when he could use the common kitchen when its not meal time. He doesn’t seem to be making a lot of it bu any means, so I will assume he only eats it himself unless there is a reason to share.
5. If his quirk activates when he eats 10 grams of sugar, wouldn’t this also happen when he eats complex carbohydrates? What if it only happens because the 10 grams allows his blood sugar to reach a certain peak that is not possible as easily with complex carbohydrates because the insulin his body makes prevents it from reaching that point.
6. The pancreas produces a certain amount of insulin after eating and increases the production after a spike in blood sugar. Because his pancreas creates more than normal, than even during normal times, his blood sugar may continue to be lowered by the insulin.
7. Because it continues to lower blood sugar outside quirk use, he uses his personal kitchen to make himself sweats for rescue for his hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
8. What are some symptoms of low blood sugar? Excess sweating, lightheadedness, and MENTAL CONFUSION!
Here it is. Here is my reasoning.
7 hypos in a day is not the one chief, i am EXHAUSTED and sick of drinking orange juice
Imagine if every time I forgot to eat enough carbs to prevent my metformin prescription from knocking me unconscious I just opened my mouth and made the windows shutdown noise before passing out lol
