Has anyone else had this happen? I've been experiencing hypothyroid symptoms since I was 8 years old. When I was tested at the age of thirteen everything came out normal and they assumed I was just going through some strange puberty related things (my doctor was a fucking moron). At seventeen I was tested again and my results came back as pretty severe hypothyroid. I took medication for it until I moved, but my levels never came up to where they were supposed to. I was on a pretty high dose of my medication and on my way up higher.
After moving, I ran out of my meds. I've developed a goiter on my thyroid, which I'm going to have an ultrasound of on the 30th. My hypothyroid symptoms are at an all time worse. My brain fog is so bad I barely know who I am half of the time and I need like 15 hours of sleep to feel even vaguely refreshed. I've got most of the other classic symptoms as well, including thinning hair and being cold. So I was SUPER surprised when my doctor just told me that my thyroid levels are suddenly normal and there's nothing to worry about? What should I do?
Ugh. Hypo update.
So my heart palpitations won't subside. I switched back to my 50mcg dosage on December 30th and I was okay for a few days, but now I've been experiencing them more frequently and for a longer amount of time. I called my doctor today and she wants to retest my TSH level. She told me on December 23rd my number was still in the underactive threshold but she wants to 'make sure' that my thyroid is not the cause of this. There's no way that my underactive thyroid magically reversed itself between December 23rd and now, so I know the next step she'll want to take is blood pressure medication. I do not want to go on any heart medications. I've never had heart problems before in my life. I had an EKG done in September (and I've had one done annually since I was diagnosed with ITP in November of 2005) and every single test shows better than normal heart activity. On top of that, I've lived all my life having lower than average blood pressure. I had a feeling that these palpitations have to do with my thyroid medication and after reading this article on Stop The Thyroid Madness, my feelings have been solidified. I think I am ready to stand up for myself if my TSH comes back underactive and my doctor tries to prescribe me yet another medication, but I feel I need more information beforehand. Can anyone help me? Please?
2nd day off of hormone doses.
So I have been told by my doctor twice now, that he has no idea what is going on with my health. I was diagnosed 2 and a half years ago with Hypothyroid. I started on an extremely high dose of the pill that you take (called levothyroid) and basically what it does is give you the hormones that the thyroid should have been giving you. Every time I've gone in for the last year, he has lowered my dose. Two months ago I got my blood drawn like usual, then went in to see my specialist doctor. He told me that I am a medical mystery, then he started to list off all these other diseases I might have along with hypothyroid, but he said the most likely one is Graves Disease. Which is HYPERthyroid. So somehow I might've had Hyperthyroid at the same time that I have Hypothyroid.
Long story short I just went back in a couple days ago, and he said that I do have both, then he explained how that was possible, and how out of the thousands of patients he's had before me, no one has had this happen like I have. So he's taking me off my medication to see what happens. So far I'm feeling pretty good, my tiredness and depression from having hypo hasn't come back fully yet. Let's hope it stays like this.
Let me know if you had the same thing happen to you. :) It would be lots of help to know whats going on with me.
