omg.. this angle of vessel thanking the crowd in cleveland 😩 (also peep the hand on the right trying to give vessel?? an engagement ring???) - via takeabite_official
had an interaction with someone earlier where they were defending actions of cruelty inflicted upon one of the highly invasive yellow jacket species.
at the time i wasn’t thinking about them being invasive. i was just saying hey, what the hell is wrong with you, you evil piece of shit.
and in defense they go, ‘well it’s invasive and destructive in its non-native environments - do you think it deserve to live?’
had to take a second because all of the nuances of invasive species control were flashing before my eyes but -
i realized pretty quickly. . . yeah. that is actually, exactly what i’m saying.
invasive species deserve to live. they deserve life. they do deserve that. so damn much.
the fact that sometimes we have to take that from them in the pursuit of environmental conservation is one of the most fucked up, horrible environmental tragedies in history.
invasive species aren’t evil, they aren’t conniving and malicious. they aren’t destroying environments the same way gasoline guzzling billionaires are. they’re just living within the environment they were born or brought into.
what the hell else are they supposed to do???
they did not do this. humans did this.
right now, our solutions to invasive species are almost always death. but even if it may be necessary in the face of this bullshit stupid fucking timeline we live in -
it doesn’t negate the fact that these organisms DESERVE LIFE.
do not ever let anyone convince you that the ‘usefulness’ of an animal dictates how it should be treated.
and obviously - cruelty towards nature in whatever form it takes is NEVER justified. never, ever.
