My hot take that gets other people with progressive politics mad at me is that I don't think there is inherent value to hard work

Working hard might be something you personally get value out of, and things can turn out better if you work hard on them, but I don't think those things are always true. Most of the time when I work really hard on something and finally finish it, I feel relief, not accomplishment.

I have a few things to say about the "Caleb" situation that everybody in the Fandom is like 99% aware of. I'm tired of seeing it.

1. If it gives you the ick, ignore it.

2. Headcannon it differently if you cannot. If you absolutely can't headcannon it, ignore it.

3. You don't have to play this game. You do not have to spend money on it. YOU. DO. NOT. HAVE. TO. SPEND. MONEY. OR. PLAY. THIS. GAME. Nobody is making you play this game. Nobody.

4. For people that do still play the game, and complain about it, get over it. Tropes exist for a reason. The step brother/ step sister trope is a thing. The brother/sister/ incest thing is a regulated trope that has been around forever, not just in current media, but in mythological and ancient media. Get over it. That must mean you don't look at or consume any, for example, Greek mythology, Egyptian mythology, or for more modern media, A Song of Ice and Fire where there is clear incest.

5. Different strokes for different folks. Don't kink shame folks for liking different things. Ignore it and move on.

6. If this gives you the ick, IGNORE IT.

Forgot how much I despise fandom discourse actually. You have two groups of people going ‘RTD SUCKS’ and ‘MOFFAT SUCKS’ and it’s just like yeah they both have elements of suckage and now New Who has absolutely gone down the drain of Disney Capitalism. N. Now what.

This is why we have fanon. I have been happy with AO3, Teaspoon, and following select blogs for the past twelve years. I watched through most of New Who, developed an attachment to Rose (as my first companion, which is how a lot of us get attached to these characters), and still managed to kinda enjoy the Doctor’s strange romance with River Song. Eleven had to move on, the actors all had to move on. That’s the nature of the show- things change whether you like it or not.

What made me start disliking RS what just that people (and the show itself at times) automatically jumped to put her as ‘more important’ than Rose somehow. I imagine that’s what happens with a lot of River stans- they get pissed at people saying Rose is more important than their fave. To be fair like why wouldn’t they. And idk, maybe it’s just bc I’m poly (and good LORD do I need more River x Rose x Doctor) but like. I don’t see the problem with the Doctor loving both. My issue is with how the Girls are Treated. Don’t you guys think the MALE writers make both their stories slightly too Doctor-centric (like especially with River oh my god)? Why must the fandom pit them against each other over (during their times) the pinnacle of Some Guy Who Does Stuff.

Hot take, sometimes with the writing of this show,,,, the Doctor kind of didn’t deserve either of them.

so "egg" is a word that can go for any type of trans person, and people will fight for that, until it's time to act as if the concept of eggs is some evil plot by devious trans women to force cis men into femininity and womanhood - THEN it's a tfem thing. THEN there is no wider push for people to expand the meaning. THEN the same people who insist the word is for them are magically silent, or even attacking the terminology themselves.

and yea, ATTACK. it truly never is "this situation was bad" or "we should be careful with how we use these terms to make sure we aren't causing more harm than good" or anything normal. there's no actual criticisms here, just bad faithed straw men written to sound hysterical and paint it as if trans women en masse are hunting down random, poor femboys* who just want to be feminine without the womanhood - and we are taking that away from them.
