You can’t actively contribute to “high fashion” without already being rich. So why does it need a fundraiser at all? Why does the Met Gala exist?
The rich have the ability to help so many people, but choose to “raise” 42 million dollars for something that doesn’t need the money?
42 million dollars just sitting there, all year, while this country suffers week after week with new economic blows. Gas is $5-6, groceries sky rocketing, the weight of everything getting heavier and heavier. The working class paying for every decision politicians make.
Meanwhile, the rich have been watching from their balconies, from their high rises and hills. Talking about it like some intriguing discussion over Sunday brunch. Just something else to entertain their conversations. Something to inspire a new outfit to commission. Their art comes from our pain, and we get none of the credit or reward.
They have time to get ready in the morning, time to enjoy the quiet. A long walk to their front door, passing corridors of rooms and large glass walls. They have space to think and lives to play with. And 42 million dollars locked in a room, just so the poor can’t have it.
The rich have been planning this for a year. Getting excited and giddy at the thought of attending a big grand luxurious party. A time to reveal what they were able to buy this time. While the rest of us have been grieving our time we can’t afford to spend anymore.
The time we chose to work extra hours instead of create our art? Our fun? Our leisure? We are literally sacrificing more and more to pay for a war we never wanted.
And all this time, 42 million dollars was there. How are people still caring about events like this? It’s not culture and it’s not art. Rich people don’t create anything, they purchase and exploit. They take, copy, and steal.
Celebrities and rich people do not care about you. They don’t hear you. They don’t represent you. And they don’t relate to you. You’re nothing to them.
