Reading a book to Capricorn
(Except I somehow manage to talk about DDLC again???)
Capricorn shakes his head 'no'.
I honestly have no idea why I'm surprised, back in the Inkworld he probably had no use for books.
“It'll take a while to teach you, but until then, I'd love to read to you!”
His expression softens a bit.
Capricorn apprehensively lays down at my side, and rests his head on my chest. An unusually sweet gesture from him, but I don't question it. The book I chose to read to him is called “Portrait of Markov”. It has a red leather cover, with an ominous looking eye symbol on the front. I chose it specifically because I thought he'd enjoy this kind of story.
“It's called ‘Portrait of Markov’, it's about this girl in high school who moves in with her long-lost sister, but as soon as she does so, her life gets really strange. She gets targeted by these people who escaped from a human experiment prison, and while her life is in danger, she needs to desperately choose who to trust.”
Capricorn remains silent. The only sound in the room being his regulated breathing and the faint, almost inaudible crackle from the candle on the bedside table.
I open the book, and start reading the first chapter. It's titled “Open your third eye”.
“The third eye has opened, Libitina has awoken, is this what Markov warned us about all along?”
I continue to read, a quiet Capricorn listening intently with his head on my chest. As chapters pass, I can feel him gradually becoming drowsy, heavy eyelids that he struggles to keep open.
“And The Cult called the experiment Project Libitina, because they believed that the results of their failed guinea pigs would make perfect sacrifices for the goddess Libitina...”
I stop, and glance down at my chest, only to be met with a soundly sleeping Capricorn. Setting the book down, I pull the velvety covers over him, and blow out the flickering candle's flame.
I can't help but wonder what he could be dreaming of.
