One of the hardest things to come to terms with in being abused isn't necessarily the lack of regret over how he treated me. It's the fact that he thought and still thinks it was all justified. If your children aren't adoring you, what is the point of them? Make sure they always know they are lucky to have you. Threaten them with abandonment if they don't get it. If you feel small, make them feel smaller. If they aren't useful to you anymore? Cut them out of your life.

Any criticism is to be met with emotional manipulation and gaslighting. "Oh you * think* I 'hurt your feelings'? No those were all lies told by your bitch of a mother, even the things you remember clearly. You don't actually remember those things. Oh poor me to be in this position!"

It kills me to know even if I got my moment where I could point out all the horrible ways he treated me, he would still make himself out to be the victim.

He's so obsessed with himself, he will probably never realize the harm he's caused others.
