Maybe I need to play M/inecraft and I'll finally calm down.
Oh speaking of which - to the anon who sent me a lengthy message they didn't want published: thank you. I don't know how much I can internalize your words - then or now - but just reading them helped a bit.

Ah. Wonderful. Just wonderful. So now I can't count on them to be in control...
I don't think having a plan of approach with the king would be a bad thing. I know its not the same, but- I can't help but think of mortal families 'surprised' by a child with limited sight or hearing, or other unexpected need, who refuse to accommodate for those needs. All the while insisting that they're doing the right thing, and raising them the right way, for any number of reasons. And their kids are the one to carry the weight of the consequences.
I know, it's not the same. But it isn't about who you are, or who you were, or whether you can handle surprises. Or even whether you'll love them just the same. It's about giving them their best chance.
...
