It took Sans "Has Never Told Anyone a Single Thing About Himself Even Once" The Skeleton a full unbroken 30 seconds to come to the conclusion "Oh. Papyrus probably mentioned it off-hand."
(He did in fact play it off like he was sleeping with his eyes open)
I stop and say, "Golly!" "This is too good to be true!" "A little human, plain as can be," "Has a friend who's as shining as you."
(They are so Raggedy Ann and Babette coded to me okay LISTEN)

considering the delicious toxic yuri potential of yolanda and victoria
yolanda, who was probably raised with siblings, is fiercely competitive and ambitious. yolanda, who is also fairly young for her position, who absolutely thrives when challenged and put in high-pressure situations. yolanda, who sees some of herself--or at least as a shadow of herself--in shamsi's daughter. after all, eileen's been offhandedly mentioning her prodigy daughter forever, how excited she is for victoria to pursue surgery. yolanda, who sees this bright-eyed new med student and assumes that victoria would be like her, that victoria would sharpen under equally sharp critique, just like yolanda herself had years ago.
only that's not what happens at all.
shamsi's always muttering about how victoria is wasting her time in emergency medicine, about how victoria's skills are being dulled by the idiots down there (not that yolanda disagrees with that assessment of the ed's leadership), but unlike her, yolanda actually sees victoria work cases--she sees how quickly victoria thinks and adapts to the tempo, how she's willing to bend the norms of the hospital to make them work for her. but she also sees how victoria shrinks at the harshness of their workplace, how the same comments that had refined yolanda are clearly taking a toll on the young girl. what she doesn't admit to herself that she sees, too, is how much victoria blooms at praise, how the slightest good work or excellent job offered her way causes pink to flood her cheeks, causes victoria to lean even the slightest bit towards yolanda. she also doesn't admit to herself that she adapts, that she intentionally considers her words before she speaks to victoria. she doesn't sugarcoat things or shy away from giving critique when it's necessary, but she's more precise, avoids comments about victoria's history or any mention of eileen if she can help it. and if she gives more praise to victoria than is specifically necessary, well, no one has to know that.
yolanda tells herself it's out of pity, that she pities the fact that eileen is so harsh on the poor girl and that's the reason why she finds herself sticking around so much when victoria's patients need surgical consultations. she tells herself it's to get on eileen's good side, that cozying up to the daughter of her mentor is good optics for when she'll eventually need some kind of recommendation letter or something. she tells herself it's to avoid the other, more annoying ed doctors, that victoria's somewhat awkward, somewhat sarcastic personality is just preferable given the options.
none of those excuses work, though, when she finds victoria in the stairwell, swiping at tear-stained cheeks in a crude attempt at hiding the evidence. after all, yolanda had heard the end of eileen's rant from outside the door. the excuses fall on deaf ears when victoria looks up at her with those gigantic doe eyes, which hold so much sadness and emotion beyond her years. nothing comes to mind other than the fact that victoria looks to her, yolanda garcia, the hospital's equivalent of a german shepard, for something anything.
and yolanda knows this is ill-advised on so many levels. victoria is an ms4, which means yolanda is technically (sort of?) victoria's boss, not to mention the fact that victoria's mom is literally yolanda's boss. or that victoria's probably doing this as an act of rebellion against the aforementioned mother in question (again... literally yolanda's boss mind you) when she leans up into yolanda's space.
but yolanda leans down all the same.
