"That reminds me,” Nancy said in a low voice to Frank after Marianne had turned away. “Marianne caught us talking last night. I’m not sure exactly what she saw – or heard. I made up a story about our sneaking off to be alone,” Nancy said, batting her eyelashes at Frank. 

"Two young agents on a romantic rendezvous. I think she bought it. Good thinking, sweetheart," Frank said with a grin. "From now on, if we get caught talking over our cases in a hidden corner somewhere, I'll say that I'm whispering sweet nothings in your ear." 

"I can't believe this,” Joe said.

There was a new male working tonight that I haven't met before and he's around 25 and and he's studying to be a doctor. In my head I was like, "gotta be cute, might find myself a husband who's a doctor." So I said "hey I'm Miranda by the way" and he said "Hi, I'm Joe" and he held out his hand for me to shake it. And like, hand shaking makes me nervous. It's like kissing with hands. Everyone has their own technique and it can come out all weird if your techniques don't match. So, for some reason when I went to shake his hand I panicked and said "I'm Joe." So now I'm embarrassed.

Jayne sat at his usual spot at the dinner table, not bothering to jump into any of the conversations that babbled on around him. Occasionally he'd glance up to most of the folk around him before it fell back to his food. He was feelin' mighty down as of late, and the cause of it was busy half flirtin' with the resident mechanic. Stuff shirt busy-body... No, the pi gu hadn't done anything wrong. Fixed up everyone good and proper like he was supposed to. But that didn't stop Jayne from disliking him in a powerful way. Knew exactly why too. Jayne was green with envy, the way he and Kaylee kept chattin' away the hours. Used to be that the merc had got to do that with Kaylee. Any shot he'd had with the little lady was now forever gone, and it seriously damaged Jayne's calm. Looking up again, he saw River, staring right at him. She knew. Immediately thinking of any and all dirty and perverted things he could bring to mind, he tried to cover up his mental tracks. "Don't you say nothin', moonbrain." He growled around half a mouthful of protein.
