Ha ha, I never noticed until I went to Japan, where they have full doors. I returned to America and just went, "What the hell?!"

I would hardly call them giant. Unless you mean the gaps between the door bottoms and the floor? Those are sizable, but no one bloody takes a peak. :P

lol I've seen such public restrooms here. But the ones at the train stations in some small cities are even worse - sometimes, there're no doors at all, and just holes in the floor instead of the toilet bowls. >.<

giant gaps? Maybe a centimeter? Unless they're talking about how the door doesn't go all the way to the floor, but who stoops down to look?
I've been to the US and I've used the public restrooms there, but I honestly have no memory of the stall doors, so I had to google it after reading through that thread and the gaps are not as big as all those traumatized redditors claimed, but they *are* awkwardly big, at least in my eyes. According to the Americans in that thread the reason behind those gaps is to prevent people from having sex and doing drugs in the stall and to make it easier to see if someone has passed out/is sleeping in the cubicle.
I've seen some restrooms that lack privacy over here, but even if there might sometimes be a small gap between the floor and the bottom of the door, the sides are always sealed and you can’t see inside unless you drop to your knees and stick your head in under the door. In my experience most public restrooms I've used in Finland and in Scandinavia are completely sealed and the door goes from floor to ceiling and it's like you're stepping into a tiny, private room. The walls aren’t very thick but at least no one can see inside.
Ok, I think the fact that I’m having a detailed conversation about public restrooms means I should drag my ass to bed xD
