Okay can we talk about grow rooms??
Before I start, just know- I am not an expert by ANY means and my results may vary. I am a seasoned gardener both indoor and out but this is my first shot and growing marijuana! *it is legal to grow for personal use where I live, yes I checked the laws*
So like, is it just me or is a grow room expensive as shit? Growing outdoors is not an option where I live for multiple reasons- I rent my house, I live near a school, my yard in not entirely fenced in, and I don’t want to be judged by my neighbors. Anyfreakingways, I searched and searched for a grow set up that would work for me both in my house and in my budget and to be honest I struggled for weeeeks. My thing is this- I don’t smoke heavily and it doesn’t make sense to me to pay more to grow than I would have for the weed in the first place, but I digress.
As I mentioned I am a true blue, to the core novice at growing mj so I reasearched A LOT! And there are all sorts of forums and websites to read but at the end of it all I had a quite a few different opinions on soil and lights and containers but based on my other plant knowledge none of it seemed inherently incorrect- just different. I decided it was just a case of different strokes for different folks, so I kinda meshed it all together and came up with a list of essentials.
-lights: I chose LED for their cost efficiencies and because I prefer not to permanently install something into my walls or ceilings. And I got a variety of different light set ups, one bulb set up one bar set up and a strip of lights that I thought was SO cool! I am going to see what type works best- not use them all at once! I also bought 4 emergency Mylar blankets to sew to the interior for reflection. It sounds tedious but you really only need a few stitches here and there to anchor it!
-planters: I chose 5 gallon buckets and drilled holes in the sides and bottom to allow air flow and drainage.
-soil: I went organic, I can’t find the exact brand in their website but I found bags at Walmart that were on clearance as it is September already. I put maybe a half cup of gravel at the bottom of each bucket to assist with air flow and drainage. My research led me to be HIGHLY concerned about root rot with overwatering. (Learned the hard way, killed 2 plants 19 days in, pure devastation)
-airflow: I see every grow room set up has an exhaust and fan and I get it but my greenhouse has a door I can leave open for exhaust reasons and I have a small fan for air flow.
SOOOO, here are some of the materials I purchased to make a cost efficient at home grow room. I know I may have to adapt some items around and trial and error a bit so wish me and my babies luck!!
