Sterek & number 17: things you said that i wish you hadn't.
oooh let’s see ...
“It was ... it was a mistake.”
Stiles knew that Derek would say that.
He knew it, but that doesn’t mean he wishes he hadn’t.
“How can you say that,” he says softly, arms crossed over his chest like it will keep his heart from breaking. “It was a lot of things, but not a mistake.”
Derek’s lips against the nape of his neck, mouthing heartfelt words.
His hands, never still over Stiles’ body, revering and loving.
The smile Stiles can feel against his skin as Stiles tenses with the pleasure rising in his body.
“You’re delusional,” Derek says, stubbornly refusing to meet his eyes. “It was ... physical, and a mistake, and that’s it.”
“No, Derek,” Stiles refutes, anger sparking in his veins, “you’re the one who is delusional if you think that it was purely physical.”
Derek clenches his jaw, and he looks at his hands between his knees.
“I can’t hear your heartbeat,” Stiles says finally, picking up his jacket, “but I know when you lie.”
He allows himself a couple of minutes to cry tearlessly once he’s back in his car--he really thought that Derek had finally made up his mind about his feelings, that they were aligned with Stiles’, but no.
Apparently, in the cold morning light, Derek doesn’t want to let him in any more than the previous day.
Stiles wipes his hand on his cheek, catching a stray tear that managed to sneak past his defense, and turns the engine on.
A good drive away from the Preserve, that’s what he needs.
Like Stiles Stilinski is going to mope for a stupid wolf who protects his heart by keeping it boarded.
He’s about to drive away when a shadow appears to his left.
At this point, Stiles doesn’t even startle. “What.”
“I lied.”
“And water is wet. What else.”
Derek grips the door, and Stiles exerts all of his self control to keep from looking at him.
“I’m an idiot.”
“Thanks for joining us, Captain Obvious,” Stiles says between gritted teeth, his heart hammering against his ribs, and he has to remind himself of the pain still lingering around his thoughts to shut down his hope. “What else.”
“You were not a mistake.”
Stiles looks away from the road to glare at Derek.
“We are not a mistake,” Derek adds softly, tentatively reaching for Stiles’ hand. “I trust you, I know this--I know this is real.”
Stiles wants nothing more than open his door and wrap himself around Derek, but that wouldn’t set a very good example, now would it.
“Woo me away then.”
Derek looks surprised, but there is a small, hopeful smile that graces his lips, fleeting like a butterfly. “Woo you?”
“Woo me,” Stiles repeats. “You know it’s real, but you threw me away this morning. So now I need a little convincing.”
Derek straightens up, lifting Stiles’ hand to his lips to press a small kiss to his knuckles. “That I can do,” he whispers against Stiles’ skin, almost too low for Stiles to hear.
