Worldlines, John Titor, Suzuha Amane & the IBM 5100 🕰💾🚗 Rewatching Steins;Gate after years and it still crackles. Suzuha Amane—a future warrior from 2036—wears the “John Titor” mask on one worldline. That name sent me digging. Surprise: Titor wasn’t invented for the anime. He’s an early-internet myth (2000–2001) about time travel, parallel worldlines, and a mysterious IBM 5100. The VN/anime didn’t just reference a rumor; it hot-wired a legend into its plot. Chef’s kiss.
Titor’s “time machine,” compressed: a stationary-mass temporal displacement unit powered by dual micro-singularities producing a Tipler sinusoid—first mounted in a ’66 Corvette, later an ’87 4×4. Parts roll-call: twin magnetic housings, an electron-injection manifold, cooling/X-ray venting, gravity sensors/lock, four cesium clocks, three computer units.
And that IBM 5100? A 1975 “portable” (~25 kg) with a 5″ CRT and cassette deck. Its PALM microcode ran APL and BASIC derived from IBM big-iron, which makes the “debug legacy code” angle feel eerily plausible. The 2038-fix theory is fandom headcanon—but as story fuel, it sings.
IRC fragments (verbatim): TimeTravel_0 : Thats right!!! TimeTravel_0 : By definition, this world line is not the same as mine. G° : you with the infinate worlds with infinate possibilities theory then? TimeTravel_0 : Yes!!! TimeTravel_0 : Multipole world theory is correct. TimeTravel_0 : The military. TimeTravel_0 : Im a soldier. TimeTravel_0 : No…but i will return just seconds after I left from their point of view. TimeTravel_0 : In 1967, a physist named Tipler came up with the basic equations for time travel based on massive rotating cylinders… TimeTravel_0 : Black holes distort gravity…which distorts time. TimeTravel_0 : CERN will discover some very odd things as a result of their high energy experiments.
P.S. This is why a red tie, a “tu-tu-ruu,” and a certain mad-scientist yell still feel like home.
El Psy Kongroo.

Episode 180: Time Travel Part III - John Titor
Time, the 4th dimension. Is it real? Or is it an illusion created by an interpretation of data in our limited brains? Our best scientists don’t know the answer to this, probably because they’re too busy identifying cat hair for the History Channel. In this, the third of a multi-part series we are exploring those who have already or perhaps have not yet or perhaps always have….travelled through time.
