Meal of the Day: Happy Troll
Yeah yeah I'm a day behind. This is one of the old favorites from back home. It's crazy easy to throw together, adaptable as fuck and delicious.
It's also been called like a dozen different things from the flamboyant sounding "Spinach Fandango" to the less than appetizing "Creamy Meat Slop" (gotta love how orcs name things), but my version will always be Happy Troll.
The not so interesting story behind it: When I was following Katychla's group of mercenaries around, there came a time during Garrosh's reign when things got real lean real quick. Hunger makes patience thin and the already tense situation made bad quickly go to worse.
Boss Lady and Miss Tilly got together and scavenged up enough meat, wild herbs and greens to mix together with the little supplies we had and the day was saved. Cranky trolls ready to tear off arms were back to being jovial. Now whenever there is stress, Happy Troll can save the day.
I feel it necessary to point out that this is delicious for all races, the trolls we just the loudest at time of naming.
Ingredients
1 lb of protein of your choice (beef pictured cuz Stormwind, but you can use pork or strider)
1 can cream of whatever rations (poultry is good if you have it, but veggie works good too)
8 oz soured cream
Wild greens (we use spinach, but turnip or mageroyal greens would work too)
Mushrooms (optional)
Onion
Fresh herbs ( garlic, mountain silversage and thyme are awesome but feel free to experiment)
Cheese. So much cheese
Instructions
Chop the onion and brown with the meat. Add the mushrooms when the meat is about half done
Drain meat juice (give to your mount! They love a good soup)
Add the herbs
Add the cream and can of whatever.
Add the greens and cook down until wilted.
Add a healthy handful of cheese and mix
(Optional) Put into a baking dish, top with cheese and bake on medium high heat (~400f) for about 15 minutes or until cheese is toasty.
Serve by itself or on rice or something. I used these weird green noodles I found and they were delicious.
