Heartbreak
Getting over a breakup was never easy. Even less when it was with someone who you had loved so intensely and passionately that you lost yourself in that love. It took a lot of time and a lot of effort before the pain in your heart stopped burning so intensely every time you looked at the person. There was many sleepless nights filled with tears before you could genuinely smile at the person that used to share every happy moment with you. He had tried hard, very, very hard to not let Toni see how much it hurt him to be near the man he loved so dearly for so long and it was almost impossible to resist the dark temptation of Antonio’s brilliant smile and warm touch.
It had taken months of Francis not even allowing himself to hang out with his ex-fiance properly and after all this time, he felt as if he could at least breathe a bit easier.
It no longer burned to see Toni flirt with others and it was no longer a life or death struggle to keep his hands to himself when they were close. He didn’t feel like a new man and he never would as France would forever love Spain deep down. His reasoning for leaving the Spaniard was something that Toni would probably never understand but when they were together, it was slowly killing the Frenchman and all the little things that made him who he was.
Antonio had insisted that he could change for Francis’ sake but Francis was sure that Toni would come to resent him in the end since it’d force Spain to go through the same dilemma that Francis had suffered. That situation was something that Francis loved Spain too much to force him through and of course, the Frenchman was absolutely terrified of being hated by Antonio for any reason.
During those long nights when he cried more than what should be possible, the blonde would curse himself and his cowardly side for running away from the pain that would come should they have continued to be together. The happier he believed that Spain was without him though, the easier did it become to swallow the pain and move on.
