what is that thing used for? it looks large!!

it is large.  it’s like...three feet long?  and maybe one and a half, two feet tall?  it’s a hydrologic model that the geology department uses to show how a groundwater system works.

it’s got all the bells and whistles: unconfined and confined aquifers, wells that go into either aquifer, a ~mystery well~ that students have to figure out whether it’s based in the unconfined aquifer or the confined aquifer, various grain sizes, a little stream, a “leaky landfill”, and the ability to pump the wells.

it’s very cool and REALLY helps students visualize how groundwater flows.  but we mark the different wells with dyes, and at the end of the day we need to clean the model and make sure the dyes get completely flushed out.  and that takes for-fucking-ever.  also, I’m the TA that has been stuck with the latest possible times to clean it, so I get to stay here for-fucking-ever, babysitting this fussy model so that it doesn’t explode or something.

@icefeels -- I wrote a fanfiction for NaNo last year. (it was my fifth year last year; I wanted to celebrate with a little something.)

Wanna know what happened?

86K. By Thanksgiving.

On this day last year, I was already up at 18K. I’m 2K behind where I was last year. XD

Fanfiction has this weird way of being able to give you more to work with much more quickly, I think. That, plus how crazy my writing speed is when I set my mind to it...well, anything could happen, really. Especially this year, since I’m breezing through things much more quickly than I was expecting myself to at first.

Once I walked in on my son eating what I thought was an unusually round apple. ... it was a raw yellow onion.

That was??? Literally me as a child?? My parents used to put a brick on top of the trash can because I would go fishing for the discarded bits of raw onion to eat out of the trash.

Within the span of an hour, this baby stole a banana, messed up the toilet flush mechanism twice, opened a jar of expensive, can’t-even-get-this-in-Spain hair stuff and put it in her hair so I had to wrangle her into the shower, and then PROJECTILE PEED ON ME

...not including the orange juice soup. She even got herself a spoon. That one she actually did a good job on.
