It was still unbelievable, it had been a little over a week since his uncle had come home with a strange man who looked exactly like the two of them. The youth could scarcely believe it when he affirmed that the stranger, damaged, pale, was his father. Though he had strict orders to not bother the recovering cambion, Nero couldn’t help but be a curious eight-year-old, often peaking through the door to see the unmoving frame of the stranger.
Finally, his time had come, Dante had been called away to assist in a mission, and he had managed to slip his “babysitter”. Sneaking into the room, Nero had grabbed the chair that Dante often used when sitting in that room with his “father”. Pulling it noisily across wooden floorboards before taking a seat so he could gain a better view of this stranger.
This man and his uncle did look a lot alike. There were key differences, of course; however, Nero couldn’t help but notice a striking similarity. The man was pale, his skin as pale as death, lines etched across fair skin. Was he even alive? The thought of his uncle keeping a cadaver in their home sent chills down the rebellious child’s spine until he noted the rising and falling of the other’s chest. Well, at least he was alive for now, though Nero was skeptical if he would make it or not.
“Are you,” he paused, watching the other curiously, narrowing his eyes and canting his head. “Really my father?”
Suddenly, upon hearing Dante’s voice ring out through the building, a usual greeting from the older demon hunter, Nero yelped and fell from the chair. Blue eyes widened in fear, he was not supposed to be in there, and certainly not while making that racket. He was dead, so dead! Diving under the bed, he wondered if Dante would come searching for him there. If he did... he could only assume the “punishment” the older cambion would have in mind.
