“So, it's over now, right?”
Captain Price looked down at the piece of metal and gears in his hands, the technology still so very new to him, his thumbs carefully pressing the indicated keys to scroll through the data he had been sent just an hour ago. He read it, reread and then he did it for the third time before something in his chest finally loosened, like a coil snapping that had tried to suffocate his heart and had had an iron grip around his organ for years.
‘... and with the humbleness that needs to be present in all our hearts after the conflicts arose and reignited for years between the two countries, all military personnel and the pokemon that walk at their side, will be recalled to their stationed main bases posthaste. Until the official documents are signed, all military personnel and their pokemon will be stationed and not move out in any circumstance. Furthermore, all personnel is required to-’ “It is not over until the documents are signed, but we are all ordered back to the main camp and keep our toes on line and not even an iota out of the perimeter.” He finally answers his Sergeant, one of them at least, as he rereads the orders again, his free hand coming up to gently card through the dirt splattered fur of his Absol as the Pokemon sat on a crate beside him, watching him avidly.
His sergeant, Johnny MacTavish, Soap, chuckled, shaking his head in apparent disbelief where he leaned against another stack of crates, rolling his eyes heavenward and watching a small swarm of birds flying past. “What a day.” the man murmurs with his heavy accent, shoulders loosening slowly as well. “So it's, hurry up and wait, now?” Kyle Garrick, Gaz, the other sergeant of Price small unit shoots from in between his lips before anyone else can say something, his clear brown eyes hard as he regards the others around him, switching from Johnny, to Price and then over to the last one of their little Unit, at least present at the moment, Ghost or Simon Riley, who was standing dark and broody behind the Absol of Captain Price, his own Absol with a chipped horn laying over his right boot as if ít belonged there.
“No. It means we will swing our arses out of this small interim encampment and will go back to the main camp. Pronto. And to leave nothing of ours behind as well. Which means, we will pack everything up and then wait for the Bird Company to come and get us and the materials out of here.” The captain's thoughts flash to one specific aerial trainer, a burly built man with warm eyes, one hand ruffling the sharp metal sheened feathers of his Corviknight without a worry in the world.
Johnny tilts his head, a slow smirk growing on his lips. “So if I wanted to raid the berry trees and bushes in the forest one last time to bring some with me-?”
“I would tell you to hurry up your arse, and to at least get me a few ones as well as I am coordinating the clean-up.”
“Permission to swing my arse into gear, Sir?”
“Stop fucking around, take Gaz and get going. Simon, you are going to help me, Lord Arceus knows Johnny would blow something up by accident or have Ball do that for him.” Price says, waving both younger men off, his thoughts shortly flashing to the Electrode called Ball that belongs to Soap.
With the two younger men leaving hurriedly, quiet sneaks into the small space, only the soft purrs of both Absol, and Simons breathing audible. Price rereads the orders again, internally starting the planning at the back of his mind. But most of his thoughts rifle through the wording of the orders again and the insinuation running with them.
It is not him, but Simon that puts the thoughts into words though. “That's not everything that is going to happen, right Captain?” the darkly clad man rumbles, his body not moving except the head tilt in question towards Price.
"Yeah. You got me there. The way this is written, the terms they use, it seems like most of the military bases will be disbanded and closed down. The war is over. Or at least it will be when the signatures are fresh in ink and the reparations are paid. But then? No war means no need for soldiers, or at least as many soldiers as currently are employed. It also means-"
“- it also means that no special units are needed anymore.” Simon concludes what Price has laid out in words, crossing his arms in front of his body. The dark clad man Absol turns its head, purring gently in a broken rumble as it listens intently.
“Shit.” Simon curses under his breath, eyes going heavenward as a deep sigh leaves his chest. “Yeah, we are going to be looking for new jobs. "Everyone of us.”
“Can’t imagine leaving the sergeants on their own. Would only lead to shenanigans and explosions if those two are alone again. Someone needs to have an eye on them.”
Price snorts, shaking his head. It was just like Ghost, Simon, not wanting to give up their tightly knit unit but hiding it behind abrasive words about the two younger men currently ransacking every single berry tree and probably a few Pokemon nests in the forest.
“Don’t worry. Won’t come to that. I have a plan.”
