So we have had numerous ideas for our dressing tables, and many were turned down by a small mistake / something that we missed out in our thought process. So the ideas that we had were:
1st Idea: A dressing table with 2 way mirror, and sensor on chair that lights up the back of mirror and activates a video that shows gruesome / unappealing images of plastic surgery.
Problem: iPad cannot work, and iMac can’t fit properly behind mirror.
Also, there probably have some TA who can’t take gruesome videos, so they will not continue watching it and walk away.
2nd Idea: A dressing table with 2 way mirror, and sensor on chair that lights up the back of mirror and instead of video, show a poster / lenticular poster of different views of plastic surgery , e.g. one side shows all the scars, another side shows the scars hidden behind makeup (flawless).
Problem: Lenticular sheets & printing too expensive. DIY lenticular using paper does not work because the angle is too wide and people will need to move a lot to see both sides, and ours is a ‘sitting-down’ artefact.
3rd Idea: A dressing table with 2 way mirror, and sensor on chair that lights up the back of mirror and reveals, one at a time, a mouth with audio. The contents of the audio are demeaning comments. The drawer will also contain fake facial features , e.g. noses, mouths, etc. At the end, a question will appear.
Problem: Can’t make one mouth show up at a time with the spotlight. Takeaway message not strong enough.
4th Idea: A dressing table showing a distorted mirror, ‘Whispering’ audio of demeaning comments and sensor on chair that turns off the lights at the back of mirror, and turning back to a normal mirror, and also the demeaning comments become more positive at the end.
Problem: People might not want to sit down in front of a dressing table with distorted mirror that insults them. The takeaway message is too obvious, interaction too little.
5th Idea: An ordinary / covered in makeup dressing table with ‘Whispering’ audio of demeaning comments. Sensor on seat activates lights that will show a question that will appear behind. Make up products on the dressing table allows TA to draw and interact with mirror. Wet wipes are provided for people who want to see the truth.
Problem: Too much leeway for imagination and reasoning. TA might not imagine what we want them to. Not making use of the whole dressing table and more interaction would be better.
Current Idea: When TA walks pass the mirror, they hear whispers and see a dressing table with distorted mirror that is "vandalised" with scratches and marks. When TA comes closer, they will hear what the whispers are actually saying and from up close they will see the scratches are actually words. When TA sits down, the mirror changes from distorted into clear. The whispers are also louder. When they interact with the dressing table, they will read the scratches that says stuff like other's ppl experiences, e.g I listened to them and changed my face. Now I look like a stranger. / I became prettier after plastic surgery, but I was still insecure, should I get it again? Etc. If TA spots the slightly opened drawers, they will find fake faces inside, each with a tag of their " owners" with the identity eg. Mother of five. They will then understand each face has a "name/story" behind it.
