Do any of you use Idexx machines in house? We have had endless problems with one lasercyte after another, has anyone else had problems with that machine?

No, not really. All 4 of the clinics where I've worked have used Idexx machines and other than the occasional issue where we have to reboot the machine, re-run a test that didn't run properly due to malfunction, or call Idexx so they can remotely fix some weird setting or update the software, they work really really well and I trust the results. Plus, it's awesome to be able to call the internists and have them tell you exactly what to do next when you're stuck!

Idexx 4dx test positive for Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and heartworms (the only thing it was negative for was anaplasmosis). Unfortunately, this result isn't uncommon at our clinic. On the CAPC and Heartworm Society maps, we're in a fun area where the "high prevalence" colors for heartworms, ehrlichiosis, and Lyme disease all overlap. This dog did well with treatment, but I've lost patients to all three of these diseases before :( The best way to keep your dog from contracting these diseases is to have them on a quality monthly heartworm and tick prevention (yes, even if they only go outside to use the bathroom), and to vaccinate against Lyme disease if you live in an endemic area. In Virginia, they need to be on preventatives year-round; recommendations may vary in other locations.
