LGBTQIA+ YA book that you want to make everyone ever read: if I have to choose just one: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, aka MY LOVE
Book you want to make your parents/friends/family read: Hmm. Interesting question. Possibly also Simon vs., or possibly Afterworlds, because that’s the book that’s closest to my own life. Actually, both of those books ring very true to my own experiences in a way that not a lot of contemporary YA does.
Favorite LGBTQIA+ writer: David Levithan, Laura Lam, Oscar Wilde, Audre Lorde (cheating because the last two aren’t YA, but hey, the question didn’t specify!)
Awesomest LGBTQIA+ YA cover: I LOVE the Raven Cycle covers. All of them. Especially The Raven King. Which hasn’t come out yet but 1. has a gorgeous cover, 2. is going to be excellent, I’m sure, and 3. promises to be the queerest Raven Cycle book yet.
Character you related to the most: Darcy from Afterworlds. Like, damn. She is living my dream life. And I feel all of her insecurities and fears and hopes and dreams and...yeah I identify with Darcy a lot.
Beautiful cinnamon roll: Grayson from Gracefully Grayson, Blue from Simon vs. (calling him Blue because NO SPOILERS, YOU SHOULD ALL GO READ THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY), both Ari and Dante, Augie from My Most Excellent Year, Noah from I’ll Give You the Sun...okay, they’re all my beautiful cinnamon rolls, sue me.
Favorite minor LGBTQIA+ character: Rosethorn from Tamora Pierce’s Emelan series. I just. Rosethorn. <3
OTP/OT3: DRYCAH from the Micah Grey Series <3 <3 <3, Simon and Blue from Simon vs.
LGBTQIA+ headcanon of a YA character: I have so many. Keladry of Mindelan from the Protector of the Small series is definitely on the ace/aro spectrums (probably demi/demi?). Alanna of Trebond from the Lioness Quartet is genderfluid af. JULIE AND MADDIE FROM CODE NAME VERITY ARE 100% IN LOVE I WILL FIGHT YOU ON THIS.
Book you want to be made into a series: Tbh most of my faves are series already (Micah Grey; Raven Cycle; even Simon vs. is getting a companion novel). Mostly I just want the next books in each of those series to hurry up and get published.
Most painful book: The Song of Achilles. Idk if it’s technically YA, but eh. Super queer. Super beautiful. Super fucking heartbreaking.
Most happy making book: So many happy-making books! Simon vs., Afterworlds, I’ll Give You the Sun, and My Most Excellent Year are top contenders.
First LGBTQIA+ YA book you read: My Most Excellent Year, by David Levithan. I think I read it in seventh grade--it was definitely sometime in middle school. That book was so important. It prompted a major, major shift in my naive little middle school head from “gay is something taboo and inappropriate and weird” to “aww gay couples are cute and it’s totally okay to crush on someone of the same gender!” Still one of my go-to books when I need cheering up.
livesinruins, your turn!
