Scene from tonight’s practice session for the #igdovetailchallenge We’ll call this set number 3 ever, first full practice pair in 1/4” poplar. Separately, the tails look pretty good, the pins look ok and then it goes down hill when they come together. My DIY jig isn’t exactly perfect so I’m hoping that’s what is throwing off my angles on the pins. You can see pretty clearly the sides of the center pin are not even and that translates to a gappy joint, which is frustrating because I was really careful with marking and sawing, so I’m not sure where I went wrong I xcept for the jig. My real Katz-Moses jig is on its way, so hopefully next week round 4 will look better. I need to practice on some chunkier wood too. The 1/4” is the scrap I’ve got, so that’s what I’m using, but I should be practicing on 1/2” which is what the project will be made from. On the up side, the poplar was actually really nice to work with. Hard enough to catch the edge of my chisel and cut nice and clean, but soft enough to not be too frustrating. At this point, the chisels need a touch up, then it’ll be on to round 4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #wood #woodwork #woodworker #woodworking #finewoodworking #maker #makersgonnamake #cedar #handmade #workshop #tools #toolstorage #pegboard #cabinets #handcrafted #maker #diy #doityourself #accessories #chisel #fancy #rustic #display #thejawnshop #dovetail #dovetails #box #traditionaljoinery https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn7aYmCgtPu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=27n4fg8vqbvp
