Is it obnoxious of me to correct my friends when they call me by she/her pronouns?
Context, I started identifying as nonbinary on January 1st 2019 (seemed easy to remember), then started going by they/them pronouns January 1st 2020 (because consistency is fun). My family and most of my friends are adjusting to it; if they slip up they either notice and correct themselves, or apologize if I quietly correct them. They’ve actually started to stop slipping up recently, which makes me really happy. But there’s a handful of them just... don’t. One of them started making a joke about it whenever I or someone else corrected him, saying something like “yes, THERE, that’s where I want it, good listening”. Earlier tonight I guess he got sick of it because he told me to get off my high horse, and what do I know about how (my own) pronouns work? My question: is he right? I’ve never been good at social cues, I don’t know when I’m being too much sometimes, so I end up just assuming everything is my fault, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t???
