Hi! Don’t know if you’re taking asks for your fics, but I was curious,,

In an alternate storyline where Bajie did go to Guanyin and the cockroach-demon never showed: how would that conversation have gone? Would Guanyin have made an appearance? And is there a chance she could have known that Wukong was deprived of many of his basic needs? Or would it not have occurred to her?

Ohhh man this is such a good ask, I took forever to answer because at first I wasn't sure! I spent a while writing an answer for both her understanding and her confusion (based on the assumption that she would absolutely have made an appearance if she heard Wukong was in trouble), but what I landed on in the end is: it doesn't matter.

Wukong doesn't need touch as a general abstract concept at that point; he specifically needs physical contact with his troop. I think Guanyin could have soothed him to sleep (it's been established that she regularly greeted him with a hand on his head), but I don't think he'd have stayed asleep for more than a few minutes, because his insomnia in that story is deeply rooted in abandonment issues. His subconscious is insisting that if his troop isn't right there on hand it's because a) he failed them and they're dead OR b) they got up and left him because they don't want him anymore.

This anxiety is, understandably, focused mostly on Tripitaka--both as the guy most likely to get dead and as the one who has twice kicked him out of the troop. They've progressed a lot in Sleep Training so Wukong no longer thinks Tripitaka hates him, but being wanted is not something he believes in or trusts. Even if Tripitaka loves Wukong, he might still want to "be done" more. Either way, Wukong doesn't feel safe to sleep unless he can physically feel his dumb monk breathing!

...and. Being held means the person holding you wants you there. Actually wants you, never mind all the stupid words on the subject.

(I'm still not sure how Guanyin would react once they'd figured everything out. Her mercy extends to Tripitaka, who is genuinely confused and trying and suffering, but also Guanyin canonically has very little patience for fools. If monkey needs are obvious to her, Tripitaka might qualify as foolish. But Wukong's failure to communicate is deeply foolish.

I would LOVE to hear you guys' ideas and interpretations on how this whole thing would go down!)

Grian being jumpscared by all of Pearl's older skins, despite having already started working closely with her by the second one, is because he doesn't actually remember anything from Evolution and before.

Somewhere along the line - most likely the process of becoming a Watcher - his memory got wiped, so he only remembers up to when he joined the Hermits (or at least, that's the start of the memories he actually shares with anyone). Sure, he knows - from other people telling him - that he and Pearl have known each other for much longer than that. But his first actual memory of her is from late S6-ish, and by that point she'd already changed her look again.

Which is also why he hasn't changed back to his former self in PL: he doesn't remember ever being anything different from his current self, and going back just feels... wrong.

There's an argument to be made that he isn't even the same person as the 'old' Grian, but a new person born after Evolution; sort of a ship of Theseus situation. A new body with none of the memories of the former, only other people's attached to him.

I don't think I've ever clocked before that Louis could hear Grace and Levi having sex at home, which is an interesting thing to add to that particular blurred line with Louis and Claudia.

I actively love searching for a job right now because on social media, every news story is just like “major publishing company rejects its workers attempts to unionize for livable wages and the right to maybe not die at their desks” followed by “11 billion people laid off by tech giant and notified of their unemployment via prophetic dreams or public humiliation ONLY” and then an opinion piece like “could using your PTO at your job make you seem like a bitch? We asked five robber barons their thoughts on vacation days and whether people actually need them!” Like, it’s so motivating!! makes me want to be a part of capitalism so bad!!
