"You changed." 

He was not surprised to see Cecil in his house, even if he'd shushed him from being too loud. The children were sleeping. 

"Yes, I did." There was a proud tone to his voice. 

"Could this Nolan? You told the truth.  Not a pleasant one but you did speak it. He lied." 

"Of course he did." Connor huffed. "Nolan is here to conquer Earth. He wants his own little Viltrumite or two, and then he'll take them and raise them into being good little soldiers and bathe the starways in this planet's blood." 

"You were able to-" 

"My expectations were very low. Acceptance. Friendship. Hugs. Marriage. Children. As I keep saying, a man with a name, not a beast without one. All it took to change me. Teach a man he's lower than a dog and then show him there are other ways, he will gladly accept them. And if I need to let the old beast out to play from time to time..." Connor shrugged. "Sometimes Conquest is necessary. Far, far less than what Viltrum taught me." 

"I cannot deny that," Cecil mused. 

"Guardians can't, either. They're merciful to me. They give me chances to learn. To learn the value of restraint." 

He leaned forward.

This world definitely wasn't the same as his own and while he'd seen some similarities there were still far too many differences for his liking. So far he'd been able to avoid the authorities and this world's version of SHIELD but he still felt like he was far too alone in the world to be of any good. Steve just needed something familiar. And luckily he found that familiarity in Avengers tower. It was a bit different than what he was used to but it was home to him. He was also hoping that maybe he'd also find some answers and a way back to his own world.

He hadn't expected to get in using his card but once inside he found it to be almost similar to the one he'd spent more than a few days in. It actually had him wondering if Stark's workshop was in the same place or not. There was only one way to find out and stepping into the elevator, he looked for the button that would take him to the workshop. Instead, Steve was asked where he wanted to go by a voice coming out of nowhere. He told the voice he was looking for Stark's workshop and feeling the elevator move he figured it was part of this world and not one of his own.

After a few moments the elevator stopped, the doors opened and the voice told him that they'd reached Stark's workshop and that he should go right in. Hesitantly, he walked into the workshop and looked around for Stark. "Stark, you around?"

Patrick had told him that they were going to ‘paint the town red’ all weekend, && as much as Charlie loved the idea, he wasn’t sure his anxiety could take that much carousing. However, not wanting to be a total disappointment – or as Sam would put it, a wet blanket, he went with high hopes that he wouldn’t have a total meltdown. 

Things were getting bad again,and as much as he assured himself he was going to be okay, doubt pervaded his mind. He wished his Aunt Helen were alive. He could always talk to her, because she would understand. 

Charlie’s heart had sunk low somewhere in his belly when he received a text that his chums decided to ditch their plans last minute – leaving him to stand alone in the back of the club like he hadn’t had a single friend in the world. While he understood everyone had lives of their own; were constantly busy, this was happening a lot lately, and he felt lonely. 

The muscle in his mouth shifted over his bottom lip, he couldn’t decide if the music was too loud or not, because he couldn’t concentrate on his thoughts – that was always frustrating. Without thinking; In a fit of anger he threw his glass against the nearby wall – shattering it. The contents splattering all over && on the one person sitting just nearby. 

“Oh – I-I-I’m sorry.” He said, “I didn’t mean to.”

the blonde shoved her hands in her pockets. stopping herself from reaching out and raking her fingers through her hair nervously. her gaze met the floor as she swayed slightly on her balls of her feet.

“you know can’t promise anything though.”
