Richard Learoyd (UK, 1966)
First Flowers, 2018. Unique ilfochrome print 106,4 x 125,4 cm
From Guf to Grave, 2019. Unique ilfochrome print 141 x 141 cm
Learoyd has created a room-sized camera obscura in which the photographic paper is exposed. The subject—often a person, sometimes a still life—is in the adjacent room, separated by a lens. Light falling on the subject is directly focused onto the photographic paper without an interposing film negative. The result is a large entirely grainless image. - Fraenkel gallery, San Francisco
