Jet lag, I have you. It sucks. But I am awake and dressed and Mindy is here and nobody died yet. Somebody fell in a puddle but I gave her a hug and now she's fine.
Today we go to orientation and a full day of running around and me being very patient and not stabbing people. It's weird not to be carrying my phone. I keep reaching for it to text people things.
The weather would best be described as "sweltering" but hopefully it will cool down in a few days. White wine weather. Passing out under a tree weather.
Now I'm waiting for everybody to get up and get dressed so we can head to the Marais for breakfast and orientation. Wheee!!!!
In case it isn't clear from the above mess, I'm having a marvelous time and couldn't be happier.
WOAHface - an explainabrag.
Today I would like to expound on a phenominon that I feel people should be more aware of: This is the WOAHface.
WOAHface happens when a person encounters an idea that they never have before, and it blows their minds, causing their eyes to widen, their mouths to open slightly, and can occasionally result in an involuntary exclamation of the word "Woah!".
Example: Today's lecture on the Prisoner of Azkaban.
After the very bad puns on Sirius Black's name relative to the theme of the book had been dispensed with, Professor Potts asked us why he chose to have us read this book of the all the series. He got a few answers and finally he called on me. Somebody had just given my answer, so I had to come up with a new one on the spot. This is what I came up with:
"Well, the series is basically two trilogies, with Goblet of Fire in the middle. Azkaban is the last book of the first trilogy, so it wraps up a lot of the exposition and world-building from the first two books as well as incorporating a self-contained plot that doesn't depend heavily on either the books before it or after it."
The second part was close to what had already been said, but the first part...the first part made my Professor WOAHface. And also Mindy and Ryan when I told them later. Same face. I've seen it before in classes, heard the faint "woah" from the back of the classroom in response to some idea I've absently contributed, but I never really thought about it that much. Dunno why I am now, maybe cause it's Harry Potter.
Like, somebody looks at you like that, and you know that you've said something that they'd never thought of before, something that just blew their mind and made them look at whatever you're dealing with in a new way. I don't know how to explain it better than that except that it's my number one favorite reaction to things that I say. Better than fear! And it kind of makes sitting through my other stupid classes worthwhile, you know?
Seriously, how do you cut posts? This is redonkulous.
